Default Gable Steveson - Collegiate wrestling

@Gunny - you follow wrestling at all? Or what about my favorite, the UFC?

Gable Steveson is a legend in college wrestling and is a gold medal winner in the Olympics for the USA.

Pretty much unbeatable and wasn't even taken down a single time this entire season.

But then he went up against Wyatt Hendrickson with the title on the line. Hendrickson wants to go MMA after wrestling, and the UFC may be in his future.

This was a hell of a match!

That's Daniel Cormier in the announcing, former UFC light heavyweight and heavyweight champion. Long but great if you enjoy wrestling.

Need I say more?” - Chris Rock

I used to watch professional wrestling back in the 70s and early 80s. I thought it was funny, and it is intriguing.

I've watched some UFC. Not recently. When it first came out and was almost outlawed everywhere it was nothing more than thug on thug which I didn't care for. I've seen a few Cain Velasquez, Jon Jones, one or more of the Gracies, Chael Sonnen and that clown running for President of Ireland. Been a good ten years or so. I'm more from the kickboxing generation. Even did it for awhile.

I'll look at it. Collegiate wrestling was never my thing. If you let one of those guys take you down to the ground you're f-d

The fighting is so much better and crisper now. Instead of matching a jiu-jitsu guy against a taekwondo black belt or college wrestler or greco roman olympic champion - fighters in the UFC today are much more well rounded and come to the octagon with well rounded skills. The great fighters in the UFC can all fight on their feet, dominate in the grappling and then use jiu-jitsu on the ground to submit. Although, some from the past, like Gracie, would fare just as well today as they did back then - because they were that damn good.

Jon Jones is the only one left out of that group fighting, and is still the heavyweight champion, for now at least. I think he may do one more fight and call it a career. The "interim" heavyweight belt belongs to British Tom Aspinall, and a superfight is in the works for the belt.

I'm subscribed to Sonnen on Youtube. I absolutely loved his wrestling when he fought and loved his humor and wit even more. So now I watch his crap all the time. I used to love watching McGregor just the same but he's apparently inhaled too much cocaine and is off the reservation anymore.

And better than today's boxing world IMO. I used to enjoy watching boxing growing up, just like I do the UFC today, but doesn't seem the same anymore. Maybe my pea sized brain can only handle one combat sport at a time?
