"The social contract exists so that everyone doesn’t have to squat in the dust holding a spear to protect his woman and his meat all day every day. It does not exist so that the government can take your spear, your meat, and your woman because it knows better what to do with them." - Instapundit.com
If JFK were to come back from the dead, he'd be astonished at what the Democratic Party has become. JFK campaigned on a pro-defense platform, he lowered taxes, and was a strong anti-communist. Today, JFK would be called a right winger fanatic teabagger and, very likely, worse.
The only Democrat around today that resembles the old Democrats is Joe Lieberman. Even he is more liberal than Kennedy.
On the other hand, Kennedy was for expanding government to address a host of social ills. He didn't live long enough to get that part of his agenda accomplished, however. His successor, LBJ, did that instead.
How do you tell a Communist? Well, it's someone who reads Marx and Lenin. And how do you tell an anti-Communist? It's someone who understands Marx and Lenin. - Ronald Reagan
