Only worth $11 to $12 to some employers.
Some employers that aren't hiring people at good or union wages.
And I added a sarcastic comment about the possible attitude of that employer (and others like them), who are probably complaining that "no one wants to work". Not understanding that they are making crap offers.
FYI I worked at auto parts plants for part of year in the late 2000's. They had a union.
And there seemed to be NO benefit to joining the union. The pay wasn't better, the conditions & hours weren't improved.
And It's the only place I ever worked that had MANDATORY overtime. If you refused overtime work 3 times you were fired.
Worked out great for people who wanted 70-90 hours a week. But they brought me into the job with the promise of 12hrs a day & a 4 out of 7 work week. I had other gig work so i didn't want 7 day a week job, especially at that place.
I was told by long timers that that union was a waste, that it worked with the employer and not the employees.
Mainly just collected people dues and made a lil show of looking out for employees.
