Hitch The Old Mule And Load The Harvest Cart

Across the plains a bad ole murky mess
Unites in its quivering tears apart
And the bashful bride dares not that confess
As she knows for sure it would break his heart
Bloated bodies bend with such dusky chills
And the ill cast weather leaves what it starts
Grandpa cries, "Hon' bring me my little pills"
Hitch the old mule and load the harvest cart
Watch the red moon and its wide flaming rings
Crow knows the tiger will eat anything
And the fairies dance their proud lovers swing
While the farmer's wife wakes early to sing
Dawn rises and its glory proudly displays
    Cheating gambler faces well-earned pay!

I Wear My Gun Easily, Loaded Well At Night

I meet my sacrifice with ample gratitude
Although with muted tongue, my ghost sings loudly
That crystal indifference soothes my attitude
None sing romance so damn righteously or proudly
Although never crowned prince nor pauper I be
My fighting sword and armor is polished gold
Sail I my ship and crew across dark, stormy sea
Far north to angry city or so I am told
I left far behind my foolish ideas of white
Knowing that some judges are cheap, easily bought
I wear my gun easily, loaded well at night
Insurance so as not to be flat footed caught.

I meet my sacrifice with ample gratitude
That crystal indifference soothes my attitude
I left far behind my foolish ideas of white
I wear my gun easily, loaded well at night.

When We Know A Cool Apple Cider Would Be Nice

Brownish red hues emitted from angry red skies
Such depths of emotions sometimes are born from lies
Much as rattle-snake rings it tails before it bites
Poor country boy sang, save me, just before he dies
And there was no angel to save him that black-night
As wild river turns and floods the new founded town
The town throng asked who is wrong and who is right
All the hero gave them was a tormented frown
The storm smiling idlily, at first hides its face
Then it gave forth rampant lightning and heavy blows
When all was over we had such a torn up place
We knew that old man Satan had played his show.

Asking ourselves if the pain is worth the damn price.
When we know, a cool apple cider would be nice.

Spiked Drinks Got Them All So Rolling Drunk

Universe spun out of control and died
The planets sputtered out and then fell
The southern boy liked his chicken fried
And preacher's young son rang the old church bell
Hope lost its heart and thus began to cry
The throng laughed away, nobody cared
High sheriff asked, did anybody die
Mike gathered rabbits he had snared
Janet put on blue gown for that night's ball
As her older brother Bill dosed the keg
While white mouse in the corner saw it all
Kelly in miniskirt showed her legs.

Spiked drinks got them all so rolling drunk.
Most f'ed up of all was the local monk.

ROBERT...This reminded me...why I have been DRY for exactly 40 years, this year.
My funniest, and happiest drunk took place in New Orleans after we (ships company)
attended an LSU football game, and some of the guys in our White Suits were asked
to leave...Chasing cheerleaders in "The Big Easy" was kinda frowned upon.
We all heard the Announcement..."All military are requested to leave at this time".
That wasn't the worst of it. I had my first taste of too much Scotch, and when I got
back to the ship. They say...I kicked over a container of Chocolate milk on the Mess Decks.
    So...My strongest beverage became Coffee.
I may be older than most. I may say things not everybody will like.
But despite all of that. I will never lower myself to the level of Liars, Haters, Cheats, and Hypocrites.

You got auck, eh? Wel my first drinking try I got very sick as well. I drank a half pint of Ancient Age whiskey
in about ten minutes I was 16 years old. Threw up all my food and was sick all that day and the next day as well.
That taught me a lesson... --Tyr

And My Life Is Pretty, O' It Is Just So Fine

Lightning struck just as soon as I inked those words
Sorta of like a mountaintop fell on my head
But who the hell thinks we poets are for the birds
We drink loads of wine and do so butter our bread
Dawn told me stop being lazy, grab pen to write
My old heart was broken and life was a dark hole
Now I am not cowardly, was raised to fight
I am not like your bad ex-boyfriend that always stole
I walk a straight line, my six-guns fire with good aim
My spirit asks nothing but happiness and joy
Of course, I lost my farm but my horse is to blame
I put gold in a thrifty bank but it was a toy!

Now being true and straight, I walk a righteous line.
And my life is pretty, O' it is just so fine.
    Robert J. Lindley, Sonnet
    March 11th , 1971

    Note-
""And it is right now but it can turn on a dime.
As poet my number one job is to pen rhyme.
My gal she is so damn pretty and O' so fine.
We live our deep loving and on our love we dine.""

As The Flickering Stars Smile With Ample Delight

What in time's complex breath causes you to ask
Tacit monotony's spiral to complain so
When consciousness cuts it own wings to better bask
In the bright limelight and let the virgin girl go.
Harley's ghost sits in my catatonic hallway
Waving a banner crying out soon our defeat
But we know better, giving up is not our way
Across the white, Santa sits to his wafers eat.
Whilst that romantic building burns hope sadly dies
He with his favorite whip makes the reindeers cry
From across surging ocean the albatross flies
And little boy blue steals his auntie's apple pie!

As the flickering stars smile with ample delight.
The voices from Heaven cry out, no more not tonight.

    OLD NOTE- DELETED

    NEW NOTE--
She smiled when her love entered her bedroom
His handsome face and boyish charm always did win
Soon he would be all hers, as her romantic groom
And they could each day live their pleasurable sin.

Let Morning Breeze Its Freedoms Blow Our Way

O' my lord, please grant us some joy today
Let morning breeze its freedoms blow our way
The shining of Sol to brighten dawn's joy
That I work, tis good to be in employ
That I fear not having sweat from my brow
Dearest romance comes for now I know how
Allow my princess love me if you please
Yes, let us wed and sail the seven seas
In faith may we call out your divine name
Our love is real, we are playing no game.

O' lord, give us this day our daily bread
Now we are husband and wife duly wed
I pray happiness and joy be our road
Romance and joy be our story as told.

O' my lord, please grant us some joy today.
Let morning breeze its freedom blow our way.

Death, Drought, Pestilence And Midnight Nightmares

The whitewashed sand, little flowered ocean
The beaming moon splattered its shadows and light
The Gypsie's cried but still gave up their potion
And the angry wolves followed next howling at night
Rain-colored splashes hit and soaked tree tops
The deep dark was split by soft hesitant moon rays
Out in the verdant fields, the blue-fairies' dance stop
Ahead was mass of monsters hidden held at bay
Heraldic stars shown with innocence virginal
Hector had died and Achilles was laid to rest
Here in the blacken real world life was terminal
Both Mark Twain, the gambler, held their cards to their chests.

Infinite shadows wait in the dark underground.
We yet waiting for ours, dared not a single sound.

Now When I Go Visit, Tears Fall, It Makes Me Sad

He rode the high plains to hell's dead weathered edge
Across the highest mountain on a horse he road
His grandpappy a wild man swung a heavy sledge
Many are the glowing legends on him were told
His heart was big and as pure as the finest gold
And he had a brilliant mind swift as blowing wind
The whole town, the entire county on him was sold
Even the meanest of animals was his best friend.

Yes, true to character they all on him were sold
Now from a baby he was a he-man full growed
And yes, a good country boy he was fairly grown
Old story, a good man, best I have ever known.

Now lies in small town cemetery, my loving dad.
Now when I go visit, tears fall, it makes me sad.

    Robert J. Lindley, Sonnet
    March 24th, 1970, age 16

Note. I was quite young when I wrote this poem.
I was barely sixteen. Did not know much about the world but I knew my dad was a very honest, hard working, tough man.

    Default Robert...

Endless, amazing talent you have had for so long.
Too bad, many more seem not to appreciate all of the beauty
around us all...in so many different ways.
I know I shouldn't Envy anyone. But I do for your expertise with Words.
Looks like I am the only one who follows you.
I may be older than most. I may say things not everybody will like.

Thank you, my friend. I was blessed with the ability to write. I wrote a lot of short stories maybe about 50 when in my late teens and early twenties.
They were burned with my poems long ago. Tell you the truth I never gave much thought to my writings back then. Only later in life when several knowledgeable people told me my poems were very good did I start to take it more seriously. Now it is just a part of me and my vivid imagination. God bless. =Tyr

For Folly Was When Adam And Eve Ate

Drowning the naked landscape in a fog
Far away bursting city in its smog
Along the beach sea-salt floats right on in
They, bustling crowd, treading footprints of men
Of the coming storm we dare shut the door
    Raging sea-winds batter innocent shore
With the angry weather the mind goes blank
Noisy bars carefree puke up what they drank
Whilst the far-off Greek Gods watch with sweet glee

Storm knocks down buildings and up-roots giant trees
The usual do-nothing crowd parties inside
Enjoying the change while full of their pride.
Humans cannot stop the weather at all
Failure was insured with Icarus' fall
For folly was when Adam and Eve ate
And now we all must face the H
    ands of Fate.

Robert J. Lindley, 16 verse sonnet.

Lousy Crocodile Tears Just Let Them Fall

I wrote you and you answered me not
I sent you all my love, and all I got
Your beauty fantastic but ears are not
Went to a bar and got drunk as a sot
Dawn marched in, my mind cleared right up
I then drank my coffee from golden cup
No, I did not forget your pretty face
My dear, your character is a disgrace
Selfish is certainly your middle name
My dear love and romance is not a game
Pure truth and light is in its vital core
Truth is, I do not love you anymore
Lousy crocodile tears just let them fall
I am happy now dancing down the hall
This is my last note, so please cry some more
Man am I, but sorry you are a who**

Robert J. Lindley. 16 verse sonnet
    NOV. 11TH 1971 , written at age 17..

    Note.
Adios, please do not write me or call
We are done, you cheated and that is all.

    Note:
Stop calling my mother, she has no way to make me see you anymore.
