Discrimination against English speakers?

My sister sent me a link to a story in a small newspaper in the Los Angeles area. In my infinite blondeness, I can't find her e-mail. Probably deleted it.
But I will tell you the story anyway.

Visitor to the Los Angeles area is driving around and gets a bit lost. Ends up in one of the heavily Latino areas of town. He goes into a bar for a drink and gets upset because no one speaks English. Raises a stink, so someone calls the police. They arrest him for causing a disturbance.
Dude is upset because he believes every business in the U.S. should be run by those who speak English.

I disagree, but of course, I'm a liberal.

i have no problem with this.....i know of entire sections of danmark that speak no danish......

however, to vote you need to be be able to speak, read and write the language....

A bar is a privately owned business, if they choose to speak a certain language that is their business.

I agree. I can go to my sister's neighborhood and hang out without problem. The majority of the people are bilingual. But if you go to one of the businesses, they all speak Spanish. Because that is their clientele.

I think we should all have to learn Spanish just to make our guests feel at home. ;)

I think those of us who refuse to learn and speak Spanish are just plain rude. I mean they are guests in our country. We should bend over backwards just to make them feel wanted and no, I don't mean wanted as in "America's Most Wanted"

How would you like to enter another country, breaking their laws and not have them speak to you in a language you understand? I'm sure you would demand they speak to you in your own language, give you the right to work, vote and drive in their country but you would not expect to pay taxes because after all it is not your country. On the other hand, since you are down on your luck, you will demand that they give you a check every month to feed you, your spouse, your six children and your dog and 40 chickens too.

That is the American way, isn't it?

But as a liberal, you'd be for a cozier, more community-oriented society where people help each other when they're in trouble. You don't have that when everyone speaks a different language. Multiculturalism and multiracialism don't lead to happier societies, they lead to ANGRIER and more violent societies.

So far it seems that if one is only "infringing" on someones' physical health we are OK with the restrictions on private businesses. I guess the bans on "mental and emotional health infringment" come later.
