102 and 2/3
How did you get that answer? The way another friend did it, 106 rows will give me 79 1/2" ; 107 rows 80 1/4".

77 / (3/4) which equals (77 X 4) /3
when you divide a number by a fraction, you multiply by it's inverse

when you divide a number by a fraction, you multiply by it's inverse I understand that.
What I had initially done was take the 77 & multiply it by the 3/4 which doesn't come out right. Why doesn't that work?

because 77 x .75 gives you 3/4 of 77 what you want is how many times .75 goes into 77
or 77/.75 or 102.66666666666666666666666666

77 x 4 / 3 =102.66
102 rows and 2/3's row.... which is impossible to do a 2/3's inch row if you are using a 3/4 inch stitch unless you decrease the size of your crochet needle for that last row or accept that it would be slightly off of the 77 inches you want to make it.
***
simply:
you need to convert the 77 inches in to quarter inches, do this by multiplying the 77 by 4 which is 308, then you need to devide that amount by 3 for the 3/4 inch rows, giving you the 102.66.

Thanks JD. The exact inch/mm gauge isn't important for this project. I now have only about 80 rows to go. :uhoh:

I love crocheting, what are you making and what stitch are you using that is 3/4's of an inch? Triple crochet? or using a big sized needle like K?

I'm also working on a lacy dress for a non-Christmas gift.
This is as close to it as I could find. The skirt is about right but the bodice is square

I'd love to do that white one!
I've made afghans, sweaters, toys, you name it. Not too good at knitting but I love the look & give it a whirl every so often.

Now why on earth would she get upset by you giving some person you don't know your address and then receiving a gift from them? She needs to lighten up. (You do realize I'm not serious? I'd frown too.)
But the offer still stands should you ever change your mind.
