All religious references are discouraged by the local government–except if the religion is environmentalism. So Nickels used the event to preach the evils of global warming to the kids in attendance. He warned the children that if they don’t use energy-efficient light bulbs (Gore bulbs), Santa and the reindeer will perish amid melting icecaps. Here’s the clip recounting Nickel’s grinchy lecture:

Last week Hizzoner was speaking to a crowd gathered for the season that no politically correct person dare even mention.

Christmas.

Hizzoner seized the holiday moment to announce "Operation Save Santa."

It was a stirring global warming speech, replete with concern about how the North Pole might be melting and wondering if Donder and Blitzen can swim.

I'm sure the little children who were there went home with thoughts of how to reduce their little carbon footprints dancing through their heads.

I work in the lighting industry....I know that some of the highly touted energy conserving light bulbs that are being sold to consumers are highly toxic, and laden with Mercury! How many of you have actually disposed of fluorescent or even compact fluorescent light bulbs correctly?

There are enough compact fluorescent light bulbs in the US market right now, installed in homes, with the potential to contaminate 20 MILLION ACRES OF WATER!!!!!

DO NOT BUY COMPACT FLOURESCENT LIGHT BULBS!!!!!!!! The mercury content can be detrimental to the health of children, and the infirm!

On the other hand LED technology is getting much better and the dollars per lumen ratio is getting much better, and the output is getting to a point where it is actually usable.

As a professional in the lighting world, I still use traditional lighting technology, as it is stable, cost effective, and not bad on the environment. Fluorescent fixtures are the problem right now, in my opinion, as the mercury content is enough dangerous if the envelope is damaged.....

Sorry if I actually brought the topic back on point, and not discussing personal issues....whether I like the messenger or what they look like, but I think people should be aware of what they buying, or being mislead with regard to the environmental hysteria going on out there.
