I think it would be pretty cool it it were my kid. Even the President were some dipshit, like Clinton 1, 2 or Jiminy Carter. I guess I just have respect for the Office as well as this nation, and you apparently do not. :slap:

Perhaps your sister and her husband should read this (http://www.colombiajournal.org/colombia185.htm) before allowing their young ward to travel to Colombia. President Uribe is not a nice man. Why the Bush administration supports him is beyond me. But then again, I question many decisions a lot of administrations have made, Bush included.

But the president of your country is the president of your country.

I'm with hjmick on this. We are talking columia here. Home of the drug lords and MS13. Not to mention the sex slave business that thrives there and in venezuela. I would let my kid go anywhere near that cesspool.

That's not fair, you know if anybody on this board called Dubya a "dipshit", they'd have their heads ripped off.

Not the point of this thread, though. This girl was born in Colombia. Though she no longer lives there, she wants to help her country. I am sure my sister will go with her.
MS 13 is from El Salvador, by the way. Colombia merely has drug cartels.

You're right , dan. And in an attempt to clarify, the intent of my post was not to diminish the accomplishments of the young lady, but rather to shed some light on the Colombian president, a person about whom most Americans know very little.

I think the girl and her family would be quite safe in Columbia. One, she was born there, and two, she has something they want. She and her family would probably be treated like royalty.

MS 13 was born in the barrios of East L.A. from Salvadoran immigrants and when these guys would get pinched they were deported and just took their gangbanging ways with them back to San Salvador where it spread like wildfire.
So yes MS 13 is Salvadoran for the most part but was started here in L.A.
Columbian drug cartels are still around yes but their power is vastly diminished with the Demise of Pablo Escobar and his Medellin cartel and the demise of the Cali cartel. Most of the drug business there is now controlled by rebel groups who use the money to fund their war on the government.

OCA, excellent observations as usual.
This girl and her mother are very aware of the sad state of affairs in Colombia. That is why they left the country in the first place. Their village was run by drug lords who took anything and everything they wanted, including people. The drug lords lived in opulent splendor. The people lived in shacks with no electricity or running water.
At the same time, I believe everyone is loyal to where they were born. From what I understand, official visitors to Colombia are flown in on private jets and escorted everywhere by armed guards.
Which is quite a heady experience when you are 16 years old.

Don't compare columbia's "president" to the United States of America's President.
If you want to, go live in Columbia under the rule of that great president.

Question is, will you keep up the childish personal insult crap, or act like an adult yourself? Balls in your court pal.

I've been blogging for a long time. I've been blogging with Jimmy for a long time. The flaming was fun a long time ago, but it's gotten old. Now I see blogs as an important tool. I like getting my opinion out there. I have no need to attack someone PERSONALY anymore. I will attack your IDEAS, or your OPINION, but I will not attack YOU. There's just no need for that.

My sister has custody of a 16-year-old girl who emigrated here from Colombia. The young lady is a brilliant artist and draftsman whose skill won a contest sponsored by a group seeking young Hispanic leaders.
Her project also earned her an invitation to meet the president of Colombia in Bogota. Her and my sister went down there last weekend (by private jet, no less). They were honored at a state dinner. She also got a 30-minute private audience.
Can you imagine being a high school junior and having a head of state invite you to his office and ask your personal opinion about things? To talk with you as an equal?
Say what you want about the guy, but he know how to treat his people.
Errrr, you posted this same thing, almost word-for-word, like four months ago.
EDIT: After checking the link below, I see that it wasn't the same thing, just "This is going to happen", followed by "this happened last weekend". So, sorry. Either way, it's a cool opportunity. Does she have any of her work online?

Of course, I'm sure the meeting took all weekend and many, many important issues were debated and the world was made a better place thanks to a 16-year-old, considering it's so relevant. What papers were this earth-shattering meeting covered in?

I am probably being blonde about this, but how could my post be construed as a personal attack on you? I wasn't directing it at one person.
Otherwise, I have no idea what kind of world issues were discussed. Perhaps this brilliant high school junior was able to give the President of Colombia tips on how to eliminate the drug cartels and deal with international terrorism.
Or perhaps they discussed recipes and cooking.

Basically, I didn't see any of hjmick's reply, so as far as I knew, this thread was your OP, me pointing out that you had posted something similar, then redacting that when I realized the difference between the posts, then you coming back with "Please read closer" AFTER I had apologized. This response makes zero sense whatsoever. How the hell are you factoring Bush into this thread? It has nothing to with Bush whatsoever. It is simply a kid who is being honored by the government of her birthplace.
Unless you just want to turn everything I say into a personal attack. If that is the case, take your perverse brain dead bullshit into another section.
This is a kid who grew up with nothing and now has the chance at a college education and a good job. She is not pregnant, on drugs or in trouble with the law. Maybe your kids are and you are upset about it. Don't blame my sister for your shortcomings.
