What do you think of the malls running off the unsupervised kids?

CLEVELAND - A downtown Cleveland mall is implementing one of the nation’s toughest curfews on teenagers, joining a growing national trend among shopping centers that say loud, unruly youngsters drive away paying customers.

The mall, Tower City Center, said it would ban anyone under 18 after 2:30 p.m. unless he or she was accompanied by an adult.

Now i'm not saying if kids are getting unruly they shouldn't be removed, but just because you happen to be under a certain age you have to have an adult to SHOP is crazy. Lots of parents drop their kids off to do their shopping and socialiazing at the mall...

Who in the hell do these people think are their paying customers.

Now that I have said that I will add that some of these kids need to be removed from public settings they are disruptive, rude, loud, disrespectful...etc...etc.... This is a reflection on how they were raised and if they were kicked out of the mall and parents were called to pick them up than maybe the parents would take a little interest in raising their children appropriately.....

I think they should do this on a case by case basis since many kids really are there to shop.

It is annoying to do to the mall in the evening and be surrounded by loud obnoxious teens.

I'm all for it! There's a new mall near me (about 5 years old now) where the crime rate has gone through the roof due to these "unsupervised" teens and the thugs they attract. This mall is on the county line only 8 miles max from anyone in my county, but most adults will drive 30 miles to another mall because of the crime problem.

I don't like going to the mall for this very reason. All the punks. They go there to "hang out." I was walking along with my son, and this little punk thought I was going to move just for him. Well I moved what I thought was my share of half, and he didn't. So I gave him a pretty good shoulder butt. I stopped and turned around and was ready to slap the little fucker, but he kept right on walking. Didn't want to mess with any of that big, long haired, bearded, biker shit.

I can't really stand kids today. I think they're all cocky little disrespectful punks. So I'm all for kicking their asses out of the malls.

Think it's pretty stupid. Those teens spend a lot of money in the malls. Abercrombie, american eagle, hot topic, ect. ect. those clothing stores are mainly directed towards teens.

The malls here ban unaccompanied minors on Friday and Saturday after 7PM. I think it's great. Teens can still go to the malls with their parents (or their friend's parents), or wait until the daytime during the weekends to shop.

The Mall of America has a no kids under 16 after 4 on Friday & Saturday, without an adult at least 21 or older:

The Parental Escort Policy (PEP) at Mall of America® changed from 6 p.m. to 4 p.m. on October 7, 2005. While everyone is welcome at Mall of America, a Parental Escort Policy implemented in 1996 requires younger guests (under age 16) be accompanied by an adult 21 years or older on Friday and Saturday evenings after 4 p.m.

Anyone 21 years or younger should be prepared to show a driver's license, state identification card or passport during the Parental Escort Policy hours. some have tried to sue over discrimination, but nothing has ever come of it because the Mall is technically private property. There hasn't been anything like that for several years now.

My husband has done the same thing. We were walking in one day and a group was walking toward us on the sidewalk. I guess they expected us to step off into the street. Needless to say they ended up walking past in a line instead of taking up the entire sidewalk.

The thing is parents shouldn't be dropping off their 14-16 yr old kids to "hangout" for hours on end with no supervision.


I doubt that these malls are running off 18yr olds who are actually shopping.

Of course your going to have a different perspective on this since your a teen. The hordes of loud kids hanging out late at night are a problem. People don't want to have to fight their way through big loud, rude groups of kids who act like they own the aisle.

Those kids that are with their *parents* are spending their *parents* money in those stores. The kids themselves don't actually have the money, and I'd be willing to bet that for every 10 teens that hang out there unaccompanied by anyone other than friends, an average of 2 of them are "borrowing" the merchandise from those stores.
