It's VERY fun to drive. Very very VERY.
And the handling was amazing when I tried it the other day. I have no idea, and the guy in the video has no idea, what that website was talking about.

The turns were almost as good as Mini Cooper.

Heres another video of an S40 with the T5 killing a Nissan 350.

I've seen that 5th gear review. For a front-wheel drive car the 30 is 'okay'. The mini IS the standard in fwd fun - the volvo is NOT to that standard. As fun as a mini can be, it's still fwd therefore sucky. What does 'amazing handling' mean to you? You have VERY VERY little experience - I'd say you have "NO" experience in a good-handling car. Therefore, even a car with adequate handling would impress you.

The other vids are pointless. They don't show anything but a hopped-up Volvo beating what might be stock cars. No trap speeds shown, no mods. They are out of context.

PLUS...Oh PLUS...the are drag races. That volvo BARELY beating a Bimmer and what looks to be an S4? Who cares?

:)

I would hit it like the fist of an angry god. VERY cool car. :)

Funny - today in my Car and Driver they pit the c30 T5 vs the Caliber SRT4, WRX wagon, and the Mazdaspeed3.

the volvo finished 3rd with these remarks:

Floats on soft springs
Interior has the blahs
melt-away brakes
"...it's no shocker the c30 tanked in the breaking, lane-change, and skid-pad tests."
"...the C30's Mazda3-derived mulitlink legs sag under Gforces of country-road cornering..."

The MAZDA though...

Felonious Power
Crisp Steering
Porsche Brakes
Fits of giggling
"The Mazdaspeed3 shows it's chops at the track with the quickest 0-60 and 1/4 mile times, shortest braking distances, and highest skidpad number. Power, grip, brakes, agility - it's all there in quantities so prodigious as to encourage pure evil in the hearts of men"
"Details set the Mazdaspeed3's cockpit apart. Fancy fabric lines the doors, painted trim rings circle the vents and speaker grills. Perfectly spaced red-stitched chevrons march up the inside of the steering wheel."

I'm just the messenger.

post what they said about the wrx..........

Rock solid and refined
Comes closest to rear-wheel drive
The torque is spread thick
Understated to the point of (Honda) Accord-ness
Looks dumpy next to the Mazdaspeed3
worst MPG
"...the 2008 WRX is so capable and willing, such a leap in livability and refinement over its predecessor that the words "budget BMW" actually crossed our lips without causing gags."

"...Evenrude-esque putter of the 224hp, 2.5L flat-four is just as lame (as the previous generation wrx)..."

"...the stick's floppy connection to the transmission seemingly done with bungee cords."

"Our back-road bash brought out the WRX's manifest improvements, including a new solidarity in the ride, competence to the brakes, and fluidity in the suspension and steering. Arcs are traced cleanly with well-greased and reactive steering, the suspension restraining roll and pitch but letting the body down over dips and bumps as gently as a ballerina in slippers. Or a BMW on Michelins, we thought. As in a Bimmer, Subaru's new chassis filters out everything you don't need to know to go quick with confidence."
