There needs to be a National minimum education standard. That doesn't mean I give a crap about DOE. I do care about kids being educated and disparity.

Department of Ed. Has done nothing to raise or standardize education throughout the country.
Scores have been falling since the inception of the department.
Strongest indicators of high test scores and performance: parents education levels and expectations of parents for the child. Instilling self-discipline and resiliency.

Again, not supporting DOE. There still needs to be a standard. That is why we have mandatory public education, right? You left out money. Money is definitely an indicator of higher scores. Here anyway. School districts are proportionally as wealthy as the parents. Property taxes reflect. I certainly lived over my head to ensure Ashley went to the best school here.
Definitely agree with parenting. Can't legislate that.

Money counts-but just to a point. Even with that said, involved and caring parents that instill said self-discipline, resiliency, and love of reading, can send their kids to just about any school and have them succeed. Indeed, those are the factors you see time and again on some homeless kid that makes all A's and scores off the charts and gets offers from every university they apply too.
It's certainly easier on parents and to have more discipline in 'well-to-do' districts, that's what money buys, less chaos.

Democrats Warn Abolishing Department Of Education Could Result In Kids Being Too Smart To Vote For DemocratsEducation

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Democrats are sounding the alarm over Trump's stated plan to shutter the Department of Education, saying such a move would put millions of kids in danger of becoming too smart to vote Democrat.
"Without government, kids no learn good," Congressional Representative Alexandria Ocassio-Cortez warned. "You want no learn good?"
"For decades, our Department of Education has been doing the important work of ensuring kids stay economically, civically, and socially handicapped so that they'll be reliable Democrat voters," said Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona as he packed his office belongings into a cardboard box. "Now it appears our noble mission to keep children illiterate is being threatened. This could be catastrophic for the Democratic Party."
"He must be stopped," continued Cardona as tears began to well up in his eyes.
Education experts concur that empowering states to run their own schools could result in unapproved, non-Communist ideas being taught to susceptible young minds. "The impact on our loyal future electorate could be devastating," said Union boss Randi Weingarten. "Children might learn terrible Republican things, like math. Voters knowing math would be an existential threat to the Democratic party."
At publishing time, Democrats had also warned that abolishing the Fed could lead to citizens being too financially free to depend on the Government.
I'm not on board with the Fed, I admit to knowing more about Education though.

What you're saying is adult society itself needs to go back to school and learn how to be parents. Nothing to do with DOE. School, with or without DOE could be a pure as the driven snow and it would make little difference.

The family is being destroyed incrementally. It's been happening for decades.

The family is being destroyed incrementally. It's been happening for decades.IMO, that began when moms had no choice but go to work. Big difference between now and when moms ruled the neighborhoods and every kid in them. "Family" then, at least the places I grew up, went to church and extracurricular events were family events, not just the push the kid out the door into a soccer mom's van.
Was a whole different World. The latchkey kids raised by the internet are now the parents.

Very well said. And i remember moms like that. There was one on my block in the 80s. She probably weighed about 120 pounds soaking wet. But she'd come out of the house with a paddle threatening to hit us all and we straightened up right now
