I think most folks understand just how important the volunteer military has been both in effectiveness and professionalism. Unfortunately the leadership of the military, across several administrations have done all in their power to reduce the benefits of said force. Basically they have ignored all calls to keep up the standards and work on morale of their forces. Now we are where we are.

Somewhat agree. At least with the end result. Never forget military "leadership" is dictated by politicians. The military has forever been the US government's social experimentation lab. We used to bitch about it back when. Can't say no. The military does what it's told by idiots. Do you really think if anyone with a brain that wasn't a politically appointed hack was charged with evacuating Afghanistan it would have gone down as it did?

The people are there. Unfortunately it takes an actual war to expose the politically appointed losers, get them out, and move up the ones that can do the job. That's been our deal going back to the Civil War. Look how many generals Lincoln went through before landing on Grant.

On topic, as far as the draft goes, any REAL war we get caught up in will require the draft regardless the blame game this guy is playing. Yes, it could be easier, but not with the dumbasses we currently have running the show. At full, peacetime strength, our military does not possess the numbers it would take to fight a real war. It's bad enough the numbers get cut so politicians can "find" money, but current military relies a LOT on technology. Technology is great, but it does not take and hold land. Boots on the ground does.

In my opinion when China and or Russia decides to really act up the U. S will be caught totally flat footed!We are light years ahead of where we were at the beginning of the year, which is still behind. At least some people with functioning brains have decided to wake up.

The best the US can do right now is try to buy time while it plays catch up. Manpower is a problem, but not as big as not having anything to hand manpower to fight with and/or replace materiel lost in war.
