He led an amazing life...

At the age of 17 he took a summer job with a dredging contractor on Wake Island. Published writer at the age of 18 (articles in The Atlantic Monthly). In 1958 he appeared in Sports Illustrated for his achievements in collegiate rugby union, American football, and track and field. He graduated Pomona College in 1958 with a Bachelor of Arts degree, summa cum laude, in literature. Rhodes Scholar, graduating from Oxford with a Bachelor of Philosophy degree in English literature. Army helicopter pilot, rank of captain, completed Ranger school, turned down an assignment to teach English literature at West Point to pursue his songwriting. While trying to get his music career going, he continued flying helicopters for a petroleum company, taking workers to and from rigs in the Gulf. All before his storied music and acting careers.

An amazing life, a life well lived...

Dropping like flies this week.

Pete Rose passed away. Charlie Hustle gambled his way out of the HOF. Watch them give it to him posthumously. Cuz it matters to the dead:rolleyes:

Dikembe Mutombo passed away. For those who don't follow the NBA, Mutombo was a Hall of Fame center who played for the Nuggets and Hawks and was apparently an all-around humanitarian. He was one of the first Africans to play in the NBA.

I was a fan of his. His politics not so much. My favorite story is how he got Johnny Cash to look at Sunday Morning Coming Down. He was on Guard duty and landed his helo in Cash's yard and personally delivered the song
