My feelings aside i am reminded of Lee Invading the north.Perhaps. But what was Lee's primary objective in invading the North? Take pressure off the Southern states after 3 years of playing defense on their own land.

IF Russia has to pull troops from its southern lines to relieve pressure where Ukraine is having a hard time, it's a win.

IF Ukraine can hold the line, they have taken GAZPROM's main hub to supplying gas to Europe.

Psychologically, it puts Putin in crisis mode because he's been telling Russia all the while everything's okay. One can argue against internet or MSM news but it's hard to argue against those Ukrainian soldiers sitting in your back yard.

It has also been suggested that it could be a move to control land that can be traded in any future ceasefire deal. Between the start and finish of the ceasefire between N and S Kore, jockeying for position was the the main game being played by both sides.

Considering that Biden or Blinkin weren't 'read in,' by Ukraine, it's also a 'win' in the sense that Ukraine has been given 'enough' to fight, but not enough to win. Thus this move helps make them a bit more in control of their own destiny-win or lose.

A high ranking official on condition of anonymity because they were not allowed to discuss the issue told us ..."
