I was listening, heard Trump talking then, pop pop pop. Zipped into bedroom to see. Secret Service had him down. Got him up, he was asking for his shoes, was fist pumping, though looked dazed. He did say, "fight!"

To me it sounded more like firecrackers than gunshots. We'll find out soon enough.

Fox has 'eyewitness' that said they heard pop, Secret Service took Trump down, person behind this witness, on stage was hit, so definitely sounds like firearm. He said it sounded like fireworks, but too close together.

Ever been in combat? Ever been shot at? I haven’t. Neither, until today, has President Trump. But one thing that combat veterans tell me, over and over, is that combat reveals character. The experience of being under fire exposes who you are in fundamental ways. You don’t really know what that answer will be until the moment is upon you.Well, we just had President Trump’s character revealed. Turns out he’s the kind of man who comes under fire, takes a hit, feels the blood. and stands back up… with his fist raised. That’s who he is.That’s who he always was – and now we know it.

UPDATE (FROM GLENN): Last week: N.Y. Times Columnist Wants Trump Dead — Seriously. (https://issuesinsights.com/2024/07/03/n-y-times-columnist-wants-trump-dead-seriously/)
A friend emails: “Biden can’t finish a fucking sentence. Trump is defiant in the face of an assassin. If Americans can’t figure out who Putin and Ji would be more afraid of, they deserve what we have.”

Related: (https://hotair.com/headlines/2024/07/13/breaking-president-trump-shot-and-wounded-at-rally-n3791782) “Secret Service surrounded him and hustled him off the stage, The President was walking and defiant – fist pumping in the air – even as they hustled him into the vehicle.”

So if he was hit in the ear, he was only an inch or two from taking a bullet to the brain. It would have been a very hot summer if Trump were assassinated. But, like Teddy Roosevelt, he was shot but defiant.

Biden calls for bullseye on Trump's back:

Biden insists he's the best bet for beating Trump as allies weigh in"I wouldn’t be running again if I did not absolutely believe I was the best person to beat Donald Trump in 2024,” says the president.

President Joe Biden unequivocally committed to staying in the 2024 election Monday as he tried to stem doubts from his own party about his fitness for office and ability to defeat former President Donald Trump.

The president voiced his commitment in a letter to congressional Democrats during their return to the Capitol, as he tried to shake the concern following his lackluster debate performance.

“I wouldn’t be running again if I did not absolutely believe I was the best person to beat Donald Trump in 2024,” he wrote, underscoring the voters’ voice in the nomination process. “Do we now just say this process didn’t matter? That the voters don’t have a say? I decline to do that.”

“The question of how to move forward has been well-aired for over a week now. And it’s time for it to end,” the president wrote.

The calls from some Democratic donors have turned into a handful of Democratic lawmakers publicly imploring President Biden to step aside, with several others only going so far as to express concern and closely watch his performance.

But President Biden has dug in, rebuffing the criticisms from wealthy donors, pundits and others, saying he was frustrated by party elites.

“If any of these guys don't think I should, run against me. Go ahead. Announce for president. Challenge me at the convention,” he said during a previously unscheduled call in to MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

RELATED STORY | An election historian explains why Biden should stay in the race

The Biden-Harris campaign is on a post-debate blitz, meanwhile, in an apparent effort to quell the distress.

A memo the campaign sent to Hill offices obtained by Scripps News highlights President Biden’s energetic campaign rallies, swing state polling and grassroots support.

The president joined a call with the Biden Victory Fund National Finance Committee, where the campaign says he told supporters, “It’s time to put Trump in the bullseye,” framing his strategy for the next debate as “Attack. Attack. Attack. Attack.”

Later Monday evening, President Biden met virtually with the Congressional Black Caucus — whose members, by and large, have been vocal in maintaining their support for the president.

President Biden’s outreach to lawmakers is expected to continue, according to a campaign source.

Some lawmakers offered their backing of the president, including leaders of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, more progressive Democrats like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries.

“I made clear the day after the debate, publicly, that I support President Joe Biden and the Democratic ticket. My position has not changed,” Jeffries told CNN.

“I think it was a really good day,” said Democratic donor and former Obama adviser Robert Wolf. “With the highlight being the Hakeem endorsement.” Wolf also noted the donor call “was great because he did it,” noting Biden “was humble that he wasn’t happy with his performance but was confident that we need to unify and will win.”

Despite the efforts to refocus the conversation from President Biden in contrast with Trump’s agenda, some within the Democratic Party still remained unfazed.

By the end of the day Monday, at least seven house Democrats had publicly called for President Biden to step aside, and nearly two dozen House and Senate Democrats expressed worry or concern about Biden’s campaign strategy, calling this week his moment to make a case for why he should remain the Democrat nominee.

House Democrats are scheduled to hold a press conference Tuesday afternoon, where the topic of President Biden’s candidacy is sure to be of focus.

“Sadly, President Biden has a choice — vanity or virtue. He can either heed the voice of Father Time, or condemn the country to dark and cruel times,” said one prominent Democratic donor.

Yet at the same time, President Biden has also seen the backing of loyal allies.

“I’ve known Joe Biden for 50 years. I believe if he couldn’t do it he would not run,” said former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell, who said President Biden still has the support of rank and file democrats, calling the president’s decision a “done deal.”

Rendell pointed to past political moments in time, where polling and debate performances didn’t predict the outcome of the race, but added that for the next debate, “I think they should let Joe go at it, rock and roll, try to have fun.”

Aside from his support for President Biden, Rendell questioned if Democrats went another route how a primary would work so close to the convention.

“The downside of trying to replace him and get someone in a fair and reasonable manner — it’s hard to think that that would be constructive, that that wouldn’t cause more problems,” the former governor said.

Among supporters, there’s a concern about the damage caused by the continued doubts expressed.

“This is an obviously bad idea. Conditions under which it is strategically a good idea to publicly call for Joe Biden to step down, is after Joe Biden has publicly announced that he is going to step down. While all these people are talking, you know, the New York Times, and the donor class, are having a conversation amongst themselves about how democracy works. Meanwhile, Democracy is moving forward,” said Dmitri Mehlhorn, a Democratic strategist and donor advisor.

Mehlhorn said the sooner the movement ends, the better.

“In terms of dollars, the people who have moved the most money are the most committed to Biden, and also Biden is raking in a bunch of small dollars, so the middle has hollowed out, and that is unbelievably painful, and if it lasts much longer, it will become catastrophic. But the high end, and the grassroots are solid,” he said.

This week presents a significant moment for the president. He’s scheduled to meet with world leaders at the NATO summit in Washington, before a solo press conference and other campaign engagements, all under heightened scrutiny.

But as the week got underway, President Biden was dogged by new questions surrounding his health.

Several outlets first reported a Parkinson’s expert visited the White House multiple times since last summer, based on the White House visitor’s log.

The White House initially declined to confirm the identity of the neurologist or purpose for the visit, but a memo from the president’s physician later released stated the neurologist noted on the visitor log holds regular neurology clinics to support active duty members assigned to White House operations.

“Has the president been treated for Parkinson's? No. Is he being treated for Parkinson's? No. He's not. Is he taking medication for Parkinson's? No. So those are the things I can give you full blown answers on, but I'm not going to confirm a specialist, any specialist, that comes to the White House,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said during a heated back-and-forth with reporters in the daily briefing.

The same neurologist saw President Biden as part of his annual physicals, according to the memo.

A memo from his physician summarizing his health in February following this year’s physical states: “An extremely detailed neurologic exam was again reassuring in that there were no findings which would be consistent with any cerebellar or other central neurological disorder, such as stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s or ascending lateral sclerosis, nor are there any signs of cervical myelopathy.”

Biden has repeatedly pointed to his record and day-to-day duties when pressed if he would take a cognitive test.

“I have a cognitive test every single day,” the president told ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos last week. “Every day I have that test. Everything I do. You know, not only am I campaigning, but I’m running the world.”

Just a Reminder: The Left Is Getting More Shrill and Violent

ERICK-WOODS ERICKSON
JUL 13, 2024
On July 8, 2024, just a few days ago, President Joe Biden told Democrat donors on a private phone call, “It’s time to put Trump in the bullseye.”

The video below is from me back in March. As I noted, the left fixates on “the right’s turn to violence,” but it is actually the left that is increasingly violent, and its press outlets are increasingly suggesting someone must stop Donald Trump.

Here I am in May, documenting the shrill rhetoric at MSNBC.

They can deny it. But a network that parades daily the terribles of a future Trump Administration and how he must be stopped because he is a unique existential threat will have to forgive us if we do not believe them.

Words carry weight. Words uttered at MSNBC inspired the attempted mass assassination of Republican members of Congress. Knowing they have that power, you’d think they would be more responsible unless that’s what they want.

Just listen to Jenn Psaki, on MSNBC, completely and willfully mischaracterize Donald Trump’s statement about a “bloodbath” in the auto industry if EV rules go into effect. Notice she uses the graphic “full context,” but leaves out the actual context of the remark. It was about the job losses in the auto industry.

After that, I pointed out how the press carry the Democrats’ water and ignore Democrats’ shrill rhetoric, including that of Senator Chuck Schumer who provoked someone to attempt the assassination of Justice Kavanaugh.

Now we know from progressive Ezra Klein that Democratic politicians do not actually think Trump is a threat to democracy.

But they continue to say it.

When Jared Lochner attempted to assassinate Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, reporters from CNN to the New York Times lectured Republicans on their rhetoric and tone. Many blamed Sarah Palin for “targetting” Giffords’ district.

The New Republic just released a magazine cover styling Trump as Hitler.

On July 8, 2024, just a few days ago, President Joe Biden told Democrat donors on a private phone call, “It’s time to put Trump in the bullseye.”

Someone just tried to.

Floyd Lee Corkins.

James Lee Hodgkinson.

And now a dead shooter in Pennsylvania who has yet to be named.

But we can assume he is of the left, like the others.

A Washington Post reporter now confirmed from the local District Attorney that President Trump was shot, a member of the crowd is dead, and the shooter has been killed.

Throughout history, grandiose visions of world-altering consequences have motivated political assassins. Gavril Princip’s June 1914 rendezvous with Archduke Ferdinand in Sarajevo is a horrifying example.

Despite the historical track record, until James T. Hodgkinson’s June 2017 criminal assault on a Virginia baseball diamond, a chilling congressional coup d’état scenario which alters history in these United States would be little more than an edgy plot-line in a paperback thriller. In the Hollywood movie version there is a one hundred percent certainty right wing activists would be the monsters who attempted the coup.

Unfortunately, the scenario is no longer over the edge. Whether intended or unintended, a change in control of the House of Representatives could well have been a consequence of Hodgkinson’s crime.

Calculating the number of congressional Republicans hard left terrorist James T. Hodgkinson could have murdered on his baseball diamond battlefield reveals a megalomaniacal political scheme that may have inspired his savage assault: a history-altering Capitol Hill coup d’état within the electoral system.

Farfetched? Simple and truly fascist bloodbath math makes the case that Hodgkinson’s crime could have created political circumstances where Democrats might gain control of the House of Representatives.

As strategists say, that shift in power would “set conditions” for impeaching President Donald Trump, a man Hodgkinson hated and whose election and administration Hodgkinson and millions of his fellow Democrats believe to be illegal and illegitimate.

I am not attempting to read the assassin’s mind. But we know he intended to massacre Republicans, which tells us a lot about his mindset and his motives. We also know he committed the crime.

Now examine the Republican baseball team roster from the perspective of an angry, outraged hard-left Bernie Sanders progressive who for the last eight months has absorbed an acid hot media-political narrative ritually vilifying Trump. Mainstream media headlines and the rhetoric of Democrat leaders persistently arouse and incite the Democrat Party base, claiming Trump is a traitor, his administration is illegitimate and that evil Republicans are plotting to repeal Obamacare so they can kill senior citizens. Why, Paul Ryan still wants to push old ladies off a cliff!

After examining the baseball roster, count the current number of Republicans and Democrats serving on Capitol Hill.

Seventeen Republican congressional representatives and two senators remained on the baseball practice field when Hodgkinson launched his one-man Red Army assault. Three Congressmen, Representatives Tom Rooney, Mark Walker, and Bill Johnson had just left.

Call it luck, call it grace, but another 12 team members (and elected officials) missed the practice.

Though New Math scholars may arrive at a different answer, classic 1 + 1 = 2 addition says Hodgkinson could have killed 32 Republican members of the House and two Senators.

The current GOP-Dem breakdown in the House is 239 Rs to 194 Ds. The Senate is 52 Rs and 48 Ds.

If the following strikes you as brutally cold remember Hodgkinson was a terrorist intent on cold blooded mass slaughter. Killing 32 Republican members of the House reduces the Republicans to 207 seats. That means the nation must conduct 32 special elections. That means the Resistance (which includes Hillary Clinton) has 32 opportunities to seize a Republican seat in a special election.

Would the Democrats sweep them all? Mainstream media portray radical members of the Resistance as aroused and ready to act. So voila Hodgkinson — he’s now Exhibit A for arousal and radical action.

Agreed, murdering two Republican Senators doesn’t shift power in that chamber, but it also necessitates two special elections where — in the hate-filled Occupy Whatever brain of a Hodgkinson — a Democrat might replace a Republican.

Flipping the House makes Nancy Pelosi the Speaker, and gives her the votes to impeach Donald Trump. It takes two-thirds in the Senate to convict, so Trump won’t be removed. But the Democrats would get their trial.

Check the terrorist’s math. Subtract Republicans, then add Democrats.

Even if Hodgkinson didn’t see this possibility with clarity, his murder spree had this evil potential. Extremist Democrats have touted every single mid-term election as a political opportunity. The races for House seats in Montana and Georgia are two examples.

Way beyond the edge political and rhetorical incitement poisoned Hodgkinson’s media and Democrat activist environment.

Examples of septic incitement come in bushel buckets, but two illustrate how violence permeates current far left Democratic politics.

During the election Democrat operative and covert terrorist Robert Creamer routinely employed violence to disrupt Trump rallies and Republican campaign events.

Recall Obama Administration Attorney General Loretta Lynch said we need more marching, blood and death on the streets.

Well, Loretta, James T. Hodgkinson heard you. And he spilled the blood you demanded.

Analyzing Hodgkinson’s tactical planning and his tactical movements on the ball field demonstrates he intended to murder Republican leaders en masse.

We know his attack was premeditated. Police have recovered a list he kept with the names of several Republican lawmakers.

He chose to attack the practice field because it was a “soft” target. The annual congressional baseball game in Nationals Park would have extensive police protection. Besides, in the annual game he could only kill Republicans on the field and a stray round might hit a Democrat. On the practice field he could kill enough Republican representatives that the Democrats might take control of the House and set conditions for Trump’s impeachment.

Hodgkinson may or may not have been aware of Rep. Steve Scalise’s protective detail, but assumed his semi-automatic rifle had the firepower to handle a cop or two.

From a position behind the third base dugout, Hodgkinson began his assault by shooting in the direction of third baseman Rep. Trent Kelly (R-MS) and second baseman Scalise (R-LA). He may have been specifically targeting Scalise since he considered Scalise to be a Ku Klux Klansman, which demonstrates historical ignorance since the Ku Klux Klan was a Democrat organization.

Hodgkinson’s first volley wounded Scalise in the hip and pelvis, and the wound is severe. We know he continued to draw blood. He wounded lobbyist Mike Mika and congressional staffer Zack Barth. We know he moved behind the dugout and started to approach home plate.

The movement towards home plate indicates the terrorist wanted to close with his targets. He couldn’t help seeing the dozen or more men diving and hiding in the first base dugout. At close range the dugout offered no cover. In fact, it became one confined kill zone, perfect for his massacre.

Then courage and devotion to duty by two armed police officers wrecked Hodgkinson’s evil plan. Suddenly Special Agents Crystal Grinel and David Bailey of the Capitol Police appeared from behind the first base dugout — and they were shooting back, shooting at him. A firefight ensued. Hodgkinson retreated. He also wounded Grinel. She may have wounded him.

Essentially, Grinel and Bailey counter-attacked Hodgkinson as the terrorist tried to approach the home plate area. Their fire and audacity forced him to withdraw behind the third base dugout. Eventually the police officers, assisted by Alexandria police, wounded and subdued Hodgkinson.

Everyone knows Hodgkinson’s dead.

We can hope his treasonous cause died with him.

However, what Hodgkinson wanted to do with bullets, hostile mainstream media in league with the Democratic Party and anti-Trump Deep State bureaucrats seek to do with relentless fake news, relentless legal shenanigans and relentless political theater.

At the bottom line they want to overturn a legitimate election. So did Hodgkinson, the Progressive Terrorist. Hodgkinson belongs to them. And now they own him.

and the MSM keeps fanning the flames for the mentally unstable:

https://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2024/07/02/pelosi_this_is_not_a_normal_election_trump_must_be _stopped.html

Pelosi: This Is Not A Normal Election, Trump Must Be StoppedPosted By Tim Hains
On Date July 2, 2024
Rep. Nancy Pelosi speaks to MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell about the presidential election.

"This is not a normal election where you want to win and if you don't, you cooperate and do the best you can for the country and hope to win the next time. This is something that is undermining our democracy. He must be stopped. He cannot be president!" Pelosi said about former President Trump.

ANDREA MITCHELL, MSNBC: At this point, there's no one who knows the donor community better than you. You are a legendary fundraiser. There's no one who knows the convention rules better than you. I have to ask you, what are you hearing from the large network of people about whether [Biden] is up to it?

REP. NANCY PELOSI: I hear mixed. Some people are saying because Donald Trump is such an authoritarian and autocrat, we have to win this election. This is not a normal election where you want to win, if you don't, you cooperate and do the best you can for the country and hope to win the next time. This is something that is undermining our democracy. He must be stopped. He cannot be president!

So therefore, people are very concerned. So it's split. Some are like, well, how can we subject the process to what might be possible? Others are, Joe is our guy, we love him, we trust him, he has vision, knowledge, judgment, integrity. Integrity! The other guy has none of the above. Of course, great empathy for the people.

It's going to be up to Joe Biden to do what he thinks is -- there's no more patriotic person in our country than this president of the United States. Nobody less than the former president. Joe Biden -- I trust his judgment. I think that -- again, I'm not a doctor. I can't say what happens three, four years down the road. But I think that in my experience, which is what you asked me, I think that he will continue to be a great president of the United States.

ANDREA MITCHELL: Does he have to show the doubters right now that he can do an interview, he can do a news conference, a town hall meeting, that he has to do something off of the teleprompter?

REP. NANCY PELOSI. Absolutely. You are so right. I think my recommendation is for him to have some interviews with serious journalists, you among them. Serious journalists, no-holds-barred, any question is fair, and just sit there and be Joe. Show your values, show your knowledge, show your judgment, show your empathy for the American people. I think that that would be a great thing for him. Not one, maybe two. A couple of those. I think that is essential. I think it is essential for them to do that. Your suggestion is exactly right. I don't know if it was a question or suggestion, but right on point.

ANDREA MITCHELL: Are you surprised he hasn't called the leaders to reassure them, or you?

REP. NANCY PELOSI: I have a really good rapport with him. I wasn't expecting a call. I do communicate directly with his folks. I know that he hears what I have to say. I'm not one of those people over time that always had to say, I have to speak to the president himself, nor do I expect the president to always say, he has to speak to me. His people can speak to my people.

But let us again in this time of -- 4th of July, it's my favorite civic holiday of the year. It's so exciting to celebrate what our founders did and what our men and women in uniform have done to protect all of that freedom as we just observed, at the invasion of Normandy. I was there and saw the president speak so brilliantly there. Again, about a more perfect union. Let us celebrate the anniversary of the Civil Rights Act, not try to undermine it with their Project 2025, undermining democracy.

Also Biden has REFUSED to give any Secret Service protection to RFK jr. at all.
He's had a petition set-up for a month or more trying to get it.

I know. We've had it up several times in discussions and how disgusting the Biden administration is for not giving it.

Seconds later, Trump rose to his feet and told his security detail to “wait” before pumping his fist and shouting “fight” to the badly shaken crowd.

“He came within inches of having his face shot open,” a senior law enforcement source told The Post.

One witness told BBC News that he alerted Secret Service to a gunman who was “bear-crawling up the roof” of the building” of a nearby building.

“Next thing you know, five shots rang out,” he said.

Elon Musk posted the video on X, writing, “The head of the Secret Service and the leader of this security detail should resign.” (https://x.com/elonmusk/status/1812278791105913068)

From the Daily Mail:

The Secret Service's counter sniper team took out the shooter. They said the male shooter began firing from an elevated position outside the rally grounds before being killed. Two other people were critically-injured by the gunfire.

Unverified video circulating on social media showed a body - that appeared to be clad in camo gear - lying on top of a beige-colored building outside the farm grounds.

Trump was mid-sentence, saying 'Take a look at what happened' when the shots began to ring out shortly before 6pm ET, with terrified screams filling the air as he and onlookers dived to the ground.

When Biden didn't want to give Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Secret Service protection, he was expressing by his actions that he doesn't care about risking the lives of his political opponent. This is a ruthless guy.
