What happens in congress lobbyist & stocks & evil Populist

From the comments
"Why do members of congress have to raise so much money? Matt Gaetz mentioned that too. He said if you want to get on a committee, you have to give the speaker like $500k. If you want to get your bill to a committee hearing, $50k. Why do they have to pay party leadership so much money just to be able to do the job they were elected to do?"

I used to follow a couple of good old boys who went to congress and found out that they had to spend the majority of their time fundraising just to get in the committees that they needed to be on to get the changes they promised their constituency. They did not run for reflection. Said the system was too corrupt.

Grrr, populists. But I missed the connection. And I'm guessing the speaker isn't getting 500k in a duffle bag from the representatives own coffers.

It goes into the party coffers.

I'm not sure the commenter knows that. Or at least didn't give the whole story. And it goes into a PAC to elect more Republicans. I'm not overly worked up about that.

I am. They should focus on getting business done... not on fundraising ... especially from lobbyists.

I guess it's best to leave the fundraising for the other side then. They can get diselected while keeping their noses out of the dirt.

Don't hinge committee positions on fundraising. That allows more corruption because a politician can be bought by lobbyists that want representation on a specific committee. Both sides do it.

I'm not opposed. I'm also not getting too worked up about it.

Which is why this bs continues. No one wants to get too worked up about it. Apathy.

It's not apathy. It's an unimportant issue IMO.

Lobbyist running the gov't via donations, monopolizing the time of congress, to do what they want is an unimportant issue.
But populist ...like... the will of the people... getting the gov't to do a few things... is EVIL and is nigh on to socialism! and must be STOPPED! It will RUIN conservatism, the party & the country!

what's wrong with this picture?

The specific issue was intra-party PAC donations. But demands for governmental transparency don't require populism.

Hyperbole is wrong with this picture.

So you're ok with business as usual even if it's unethical and corrupt? Wouldn't want to disrupt the current flow of business to root out BS. Figures.

I'm not agreeing that intra-party PAC donations are unethical and corrupt.

Of course you don't. As long as your interests are not disrupted you'll go along with it.

What a dumb thing to say... err. Now I get it. I guess my interest here is an effective national party that can advocate for small-government, Constitutional conservatism against those who don't while your interest appears to be chaos.
