Carl Weathers dead at 76

Carl Weathers, a former NFL linebacker who became a Hollywood action movie and comedy star, playing nemesis-turned-ally Apollo Creed in the "Rocky" movies, facing off against Arnold Schwarzenegger in "Predator" and teaching golf in "Happy Gilmore," has died. He was 76.

Matt Luber, his manager, said Weathers died Thursday. His family issued a statement saying he died "peacefully in his sleep." No cause was given.

Apollo creed in the original rocky is one of my all time favorite characters.

I must have read the same initial report you did. His family stated he died peacefully in his sleep. Then the youtube video reports he tragically died. Sensationalism for no reason:rolleyes:

As Stallone stated elsewhere, Rocky would not have been the same without him. IMO, he made those movies every bit as much as Rocky. So much so they had to turn him babyface. Action Jackson was cheesy, 80 schlock:laugh:
