FYI
Nuclear Radioactive Fallout Survival Techniques.
from the Dept of Health Education and Welfare and the Office of Civil Defense

the basic advise is:
Listen to the radio & "Time, Distance and Shielding"
Which translates into, get your arse to a fallout shelter and stay there for a few weeks.
If you don't have one near you, well, might want to build one.

And If you do get sick from radiation, try some hot tea, aspirin and baking soda in water.
But Don't Worry, radiation sickness is temporary. Don't believe rumors that say otherwise. trust the experts.

Quote from the end of the film.
"Make no mistake nuclear attack would be a terrible catastrophe.
Millions of our people would be killed by the initial blast and heat.
Millions more would be threatened by death from radioactive fallout. But that is a threat that can be combated. Can with Knowledge, preparation and courage be faced and conquered."

If a nuclear warhead goes off anywhere near you all this academic crap is moot.

Radiation sickness is in degrees. Mild radiation sickness is indeed temporary and survivable. Survivability rate goes down as the severity of the poisoning goes up.

Just an opinion but I think more people who survive the initial blast, bearing in mind the above, will die from panic and stupidity. Few are prepared to survive beyond the weapon itself. Think about essential means of survival and see how much you rely on services provided by others.

Not to mention your "fellow man" who will gladly kill you for anything you have to extend his survival.

I'd rather not find out.
but I've been told that's selfish talk.
Iran, Hamas and Russia are worth the risk I guess.
