Because of surgery in June, I have a bunch of debt to work on. Thus, cutting back on gifts and unnecessary purchases. Might buy some house brands in place of preferred brands for awhile.
I have enough income to deal with my debt, not too mention because of income and credit rating, other than my car at less than 2% financing, none of my 'debt' carries interest payments.
Not many families with kids are in that boat, I think tougher times ahead:

It's been looming for the past couple of years but I just don't think it's inevitable. I think unemployment is still too low to have what any traditionalist would call a recession.

You could be right, but neither inflation nor the markets along with unemployment are acting traditionally.

True. Been there, done that. Stop making excuses for those that choose to lose.

To a certain extent. More so are opportunities to plan readiness for better times.
Smart young people, with or without home ownership know it's padt time to get rid of debt, as quickly as possible. To do that, cut spending and increase income. Second job: spouse works from home or out; ...
Save for refinancing or down-payment when interest rates come down.
There's many ways to use bad times, but knowledge is essential. Reading helps.

So many families, I'm just missing them? Sec 8, SNAP; school provided breakfast, lunch, and some take home dinners.
I'm not against any of these, but don't think they work to lift people for future delegations.
It's certainly a good wY to control. Look at north Korea.

a better solution is keeping jobs for them to work at instead of sending all those wages out of the country for short term multinational corporate profit.

Right here in the US. Those people you really don't care about but love running up a false flag for? They don't want to go to work. Those that give it a thought think they should start at Corporate CEO $500k starting:rolleyes: Nobody wants to start at the bottom working 2 sucky jobs for low wages like every young person before your entitled generation came along.
You who wants to force them to buy only the goods you allow them to are. Need to make up your mind which you are for. The people or the authoritarian populism. Can't be both.
Excuses:rolleyes:

Everywhere there are help wanted signs. If people don't apply, can't get them. If you're hungry, you'll eat.

Ten Red Flags Warn of a Looming RecessionLeading economic indicators, tightening credit and a dicey global economy portend a decline

conomists have practically sounded the all-clear on a looming recession, but plenty of signs are still flashing red.
Clearly, economists were wrong earlier this year when they forecast an economic contraction that has yet to manifest. Could they be wrong now?
To be sure, economic growth, the labor market and consumer spending have proven unexpectedly resilient in the face of rising interest rates and elevated inflation. But there are still plenty of signs a recession might still be on its way.

US inflation-adjusted household income fell in 2022 by the most in over a decade, highlighting the toll of a higher cost of living and the expiration of pandemic-era programs.
The median income last year was $74,580 compared with $76,330 in 2021, according to the Census Bureau’s annual reports on income, poverty and health insurance coverage.

The 2.3% drop in incomes — which was the most since 2010 — marked the third-straight annual decline, which has been a feature of past recessions like the global financial crisis, the dotcom bubble and the downturn in the early 1990s. Last year, American families faced the the largest annual increase in the cost-of-living adjustment in over four decades.
