Some reference for when the Don tries to blather on and on. Personally he seemed to look at it much like myself. Pretty conservatively at the beginning-even praising Trump's aggressive opening salvos for the possible. Then skepticism at approach, when results start coming in. Seems pretty methodical to me :

The person trying to rewrite history is Trump. As I recall, Desantis was the anti-Biden mandate Republican Gov who could do no right and the media couldn't wait for his next volley with the Biden WH.

I'm not sure what one would call anyone not playing by ear at first because that was pretty much the only option available.
