Nikki Haley touts foreign policy experience, understanding of what 'real national security is'Haley says she would be a president who understands the importance of US allies
Brooke Singman
August 26, 2023 10:00am EDT
MILWAUKEE—Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley says she understands what "real national security is" – something she says makes her the most prepared to take on the Oval Office and strengthen America’s standing on the world stage.
Haley, who served as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations during the Trump administration, told Fox News Digital that she knows the "dangers" of the "new axis of evil."
"At the United Nations, I didn’t deal with one country – I dealt with 193," she said. "I’ve sat across the table and negotiated with China and Russia. I know the dangers of Iran and North Korea."
Haley told Fox News Digital that, if elected president, she will bring a foreign policy with "moral clarity on who our friends are and who our enemies are."
"We need to know the difference between good and evil," she said. "And that doesn’t mean you allow Ukraine to get eaten up by Russia. It doesn’t mean you give Taiwan to China. It doesn’t mean that you stop funding Israel."
She added: "It means that you have an American president that understands you can’t be narcissistic and think you’re going to survive on your own."
Haley stressed the importance of relationships with U.S. allies.
"In order to have allies, we’ve got to make sure we’re taking on those enemies so that we can keep Americans safe," Haley said, while stressing she has already fostered those relationships.
"The greatest threat facing the United States, number one, is China," she said. "But let’s understand there is a new axis of evil. It is Russia, it is Iran, and it is North Korea."
"They want to destroy America. They want to destroy our friends," she said. "We need to be smart, we need to be strategic, and we need to understand what real national security is."
With regard to China’s ambitions to take Taiwan, Haley told Fox News Digital that her "biggest fear" is "the time we have to wait until the next president takes office."
"But until that time, America has never looked as weak as we do right now," she said. "Joe Biden has been trying to appease Putin, he has been trying to appease Xi Jinping – we are watching that and that is why China thinks they can invade Taiwan."
Haley said that point is "why it is so important that Ukraine win this because if Ukraine wins, it will send the biggest message to China on invading Taiwan."
Current and former officials familiar with U.S. and allied intelligence tell Fox News that China could invade Taiwan before the next U.S. presidential election, while others say Beijing could attempt to take Taiwan by 2027.
"If Ukraine loses, Russia is going to do exactly what they said they're going to do – they are going to go into Poland and the Baltics – which is a world war – and that will give a green light to China with Taiwan."
She added: "We can never let that happen."
Haley said during her time as ambassador to the United Nations, the Trump administration let adversaries know there would "be hell to pay." Haley said former President Trump was "strong in D.C." and said she was "strong at the United Nations."
"We let them know there would be hell to pay – these enemies of ours need to understand if they do anything that jeopardizes America or our friends, there will be hell to pay and there will be a price to pay," she said.
"When they think we’re weak, they’re going to have a free for all," she warned. "And that’s what they’re doing under President Biden."
But beyond her experience on the world stage, Haley highlighted her tenure as governor of South Carolina.
"I've been a two-term governor that took a double-digit unemployment state and turned it into an economic powerhouse," she told Fox News Digital. "When you talk about the economy and inflation, you look at the fact that Biden didn't just do this to us, Republicans did this to us, too."
"I mean, you saw on the stage, you've got Ron DeSantis, Mike Pence, Tim Scott, they all voted to raise the debt ceiling. You've got Donald Trump, who basically spent like a drunken sailor, with $8 trillion that went toward our debt," she continued. "I think it's time for an accountant in the White House. We have to make sure that we stop the spending, we stop the borrowing, we eliminate the earmarks."
She added: "I'll veto any spending bill that doesn't take us back to pre-COVID levels."

I'm good. As important to being one of the most qualified, is voter appeal. I like Ron Desantis but think he has less voter appeal than Haley because he's shown his temper and pettiness a time or two.
I've watched Haley dress down the UN General Assembly like they were a pack of 3rd graders, leaving no stone unturned, barely raising her voice and never losing her cool.
My biggest issue with her is when she caved on changing the South Carolina flag. I'm trying to overcome that mortal sin in favor of what I believe is best for this country :)

Any country or leader that's not doing what we like the way we like it NEEDS a "saber rattled" in their faces a bit to let them know whats what.
And if that doesn't straiten them up then maybe we need to send some "Freedom Troops". mm hmm.
To some folks every problem is solved with more military. Or threats of more military. Some people don't feel safe unless we play bully.
And anyone that doesn't support constant wars and projecting military and billions into other people's countries willy nilly for every problem (& for profit) is an "Isolationist" to some people.
lt's kind of like how some on the left toss around "nazi", "racist" & "_____-aphobe".
It's an easy way not to have to defend their positions.
Label others as extreme, then walk away satisfied that nothing else need be said.
Never ever considering that there may be other alternatives.

I have to assume that what you are referring to here is her decision to remove the Confederate Battle flag, the Stars and Bars, from the capital grounds. To my knowledge the state flag has remained the same since 1861 (save for some variations during the War of Northern Aggression).
Personally, I have no issue with the decision to do this, but then again I've never had any particular attachment the Confederate Battle flag.
I am of the opinion that any state building, a state capital especially, is not a place for the flying of that particular flag (or any emblem that has come to represent divisiveness, Old Glory and the state's flag only IMO). The state is supposed to represent the entire population, not just a segment, and the message sent by flying the Battle flag for the 54 years they did, be it atop the capital dome or on the flag pole out front (next to a Confederate monument, one of many at the capital that remain) is arguably not one of, and I hate this word but it is the only one that applies, inclusiveness. It was "unfriendly" to a very large segment of the South Carolina population.
My issues with Nikki Haley? She abandoned the state to further her political profile working for former President P01135809, she has too often defended former President P01135809, and she has not done enough, in my opinion, to distance herself from former President P01135809. I want to vote for her, but she'll have to do more to break from former President P01135809 and wash that stink off of herself. Choosing not to support former President P01135809 should he get the party's nomination would be a great start...
I want to I really liked for the five years she was Governor after I got here, and I know she only had one year left in the office (and she could not run again) when she left, but I am a firm believer in finishing what you started, especially when you asked for the job. Besides, when the left we were left with Henry McMaster... what a fucking doofus... not to mention a lap dog for former President P01135809. Sure, he probably would have been elected anyway, but then he would have been limited to eight years, not nine...

In the context you put it, I agree with removing the flag from the State Capitol building. The State Capitol should be inclusive for all citizens of South Carolina. Without pandering.
I have no problem with Confederate anything as it represents history, like the history or not. I'm 110% against all this revising/erasing history in the name of crybabying victimhood when what it really is doing is erasing culture and identity. This last being me off on a tangent, not specifically addressing the flag on the Capitol.
Again in context (of the available folk on the current Republican't stage), I haven't sold the farm over Nikki Haley. Her support of Donald is problematic. Why did she step down as UN Ambassador? There's no real answer, although I did find this:
https://carnegieendowment.org/2018/10/11/ambassador-to-un-nikki-haley-s-resignation-why-did-it-happen-and-who-takes-over-now-pub-77472#:~:text=There's%20the%20term%20limits%20theo ry,with%20a%20president%20who%20mocks
https://www.nbcnews.com/meet-the-press/meetthepressblog/timeline-nikki-haleys-trump-statements-rcna70456
From appearances, she was a critic of Trump, then supported him once he became the nominee in 2016, and supported the incumbent for 2020. That doesn't speak of undying loyalty to me.
IF she's shows any sign of or is planning on being a Trump flunkie that's a big red x on her pic with me.
As far as abandoning the State to further the political profile, isn't that what any of them do from that POV? Hell, I think that about Republican Senators who just up and retire:laugh:

That was Bush's fault, telegraphing his moves and forcing the Marines to stop and wait for the Army to catch up. Saddam had the weapons. We sold them to him and the CIA taught him to refine them during the Iran-Iraq War. Saddam used them on the Kurds. All established fact you can for some mysterious reason no longer find on the internet:rolleyes:
Either way, invading Iraq and creating the power vacuum it has was a dumb move. GHWB and our upper-echelon types knew it in 91 and it's one of the reasons we didn't do it then.
That being said, if we are going to call the GWB era Republicans 'neocons", it's because he let Harry Reid tell him what he could do. Calling anyone who has been bitching about all of the above since it was happening is incorrectly labeling that person for nothing more than partisan reasons.
Sam with RINO. If Republican is a political party then it is Republican. Just don't call it conservative because it only is for a handy label. Certainly not by definition.
