I did.
Cannot believe how the Dems went on and on about how the GOP is coopting the phrase "dual justice system" or something like that. Says it belongs to the black and brown people who are dispropotionately represented in crime statistics.
I've watched a lot of committee hearings in last couple years. It always amazes me when the members use their 5 minutes to criticize other members instead of asking questions of the witnesses.

Yep. I was amazed at how the dems just ignored the topic and went off on Trump, Jan 6, Republicans, criticism of Biden-as Jonathan Turley said, "Squirrels, squirrels!"

Pretty much all of them are like this. There are a few Republicans that drag crap in as well but not as bad as the Democrats. Definitely have TDS. And they are just appalled at how the GOP are persecuting the Bidens! They certainly have short memories about how relentlessly they persecuted Trump and his family.

IRS whistleblower in Hunter Biden case says he "felt handcuffed" during 5-year investigation
BY CATHERINE HERRIDGE, MICHAEL KAPLAN, CLARE HYMES
UPDATED ON: JULY 19, 2023 / 7:51 PM / CBS NEWS
The Internal Revenue Service case agent who handled "95%" of the tax evidence in the Hunter Biden investigation told CBS News that he "felt handcuffed" during the five-year probe and blocked from pursuing leads that he thought might implicate Hunter Biden's father, President Joe Biden.
Second IRS whistleblower in Hunter Biden investigation — "Whistleblower X"
Special Agent Joseph Ziegler, a 13-year veteran of the IRS, is the second IRS employee to come forward to claim the federal tax investigation into the president's son supported criminal charges more serious than the misdemeanor tax charges he is scheduled to plead guilty to next week as part of a plea bargain.
"When you're prevented from going down certain roads, I guess I don't know what could have been found if we were not hamstrung or not handcuffed," Ziegler told CBS News.
Ziegler, who has been known only as "Whistleblower X," revealed his identity Wednesday at the insistence of lawmakers, who called him before a House committee to describe his role in the federal investigation into Hunter Biden. As the main IRS case agent, he worked with his supervisor Gary Shapley and says the evidence they uncovered "supported felony and misdemeanor tax charges."
Ziegler's investigation spanned both the Trump and Biden administrations.
"I'm a Democrat. In the last presidential election, I actually did not vote," Ziegler said. "I thought it would be irresponsible of me to do so because I didn't wanna show bias one way or the other."
Democrats' reaction
An attorney for Hunter Biden, Christopher Clark, has said previously that suggestions the investigation was not thorough are "preposterous and deeply irresponsible."
At Wednesday's hearing, Rep. Jamie Raskin, Democrat of Maryland, said he has not seen evidence that Hunter Biden "received any kind of official favoritism in this prosecution for being Joe Biden's son."
"The key point, Mr. Chairman that America needs to understand is that the only political interference at play here is coming from Donald Trump and my Republican colleagues," Raskin said.
During an executive session in June, the Ways and Means committee voted to publicly release the transcripts from Shapley and Ziegler's whistleblower testimony, keeping Ziegler's identity hidden. The top minority member on the committee, Democratic Rep. Richard Neal of Massachusetts, said during that closed door meeting that Republican efforts to publicize the tax records of a private citizen was an example of "naked partisanship, and stoops below the stature of this Committee."
Democrats have also focused on Shapley's and Ziegler's choice of legal representation; their attorneys have had connections to Republican Party politics. Those attorneys counter that they have worked with both Republican and Democratic whistleblowers and organizations. Democrats also questioned whether the two agents lacked visibility into the factors prosecutors faced when making decisions about what charges to bring. And they noted that Hunter Biden has repaid the taxes he owed.
Questions about deductions
Ziegler alleges that evidence he collected showed how Hunter Biden improperly claimed business deductions for a range of personal expenses, such as college tuition for his children, bills for stays at a posh Hollywood hotel, payments to escorts, and no-show employees. In 2021, Ziegler says he drafted a memorandum recommending prosecutors charge Hunter Biden with multiple felonies and misdemeanors.
"In August of 2022, we had a phone call with all of the assigned prosecutors and they had said that all four of them were recommending the approval of felony and misdemeanor tax charges," Ziegler said.
Hunter Biden's legal team did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Ziegler said Trump-appointed U.S. Attorney for Delaware, David Weiss, told him he agreed with certain felony charges, but there was resistance from other officials inside the Department of Justice who thought a jury may be sympathetic to Hunter Biden's drug addiction and the death of his brother, Beau Biden.
"David said to us…'I'm getting some concern from the Department of Justice Tax Division, the evidence that might come in related to his substance abuse and the death of his brother, Beau Biden, those might affect the jury's opinion'," Ziegler said.
Court filings unsealed last month showed that the U.S. attorney's office ultimately agreed to a deal that would charge Hunter Biden with two misdemeanor tax counts — to which the president's son agreed to plead guilty — and a felony gun charge for which Biden agreed to enter into a diversion program. Biden will not plead guilty to the gun charge, which will be dismissed if he meets certain conditions. That deal will have to be approved by a federal judge, who has scheduled a hearing on the matter for next week in Delaware.
"At the end of the day, it's a matter of are we treating everyone the same? Are we treating all taxpayers the same?" Zielger said. "And in this case, no, I don't think so."
IRS whistleblowers confused about Hunter Biden charging decision
The decision not to charge the president's son with tax felonies remains a source of concern and confusion for both of the IRS agents who have now spoken out about the matter. Both men have raised concerns about the possibility that the Biden Justice Department in some way impeded the case.
Weiss pushed back in a letter last month saying he had ultimate authority on these matters and was "never denied the authority to bring charges in any jurisdiction."
The U.S. attorney's office for Delaware declined to comment on this story.
Attorney General Merrick Garland — who kept Weiss on the job to complete the Biden probe — previously said in response to the allegations that Weiss was "permitted to continue his investigation and to make a decision to prosecute any way in which he wanted to and in any district in which he wanted to."
Both Ziegler and Shapely have told congressional investigators and CBS News they were told that prosecutors in Delaware were prevented from bringing charges in other jurisdictions — including California and Washington, D.C. — and Shapley said Weiss told him he was denied special counsel status by the Justice Department.
"D.C. said, 'No, we are not gonna assist you with bringing charges in our district. And we don't think you should bring these charges forward in our district,'" Ziegler explained to CBS News.
Whistleblower "felt handcuffed" during probe
During the investigation, Ziegler said he "felt handcuffed." For example, he says he wanted prosecutors to obtain a search warrant to access a Virginia storage unit to search for potential business records but they declined to do so. He said requests to interview Hunter Biden's adult children about the tax payments were frustrated by prosecutors, whom he claims said the requests could "get us into hot water."
Ziegler's requests to pursue a number of investigative avenues came when Trump was still in office and Attorney General William Barr had instituted a policy requiring he personally approve any investigation of a president or presidential candidate. Ziegler told CBS that he was not "aware" of any approvals sought from Barr at that time.
On Monday, after the Committee on Oversight and Accountability interviewed an FBI agent from the Wilmington Field Office, the leading Democrat on the committee, Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland, accused Republicans of "distort[ing]" evidence in order "to advance Republicans' false narrative about political interference in the Hunter Biden investigation."
Hunter Biden's claim about his father in WhatsApp message
In another instance, Ziegler said he tried to get location data to determine whether Joe Biden was in the room, as his son had boasted in a 2017 WhatsApp message where he appeared to pressure a Chinese businessman to make good on an outstanding payment by mentioning his father.
"I am sitting here with my father..we would like to understand why the commitment made has not been fulfilled," Hunter Biden allegedly texted to the businessman, according to the transcript. He added, "I would like to resolve this now before it gets out of hand" and "now means tonight."
Ziegler said the WhatsApp message was found on Hunter Biden's iCloud account that was obtained through a search warrant. He says he was unable to determine whether Hunter Biden and his father were together when the WhatsApp message was sent. President Biden has said he was never present when any such message was sent and denied any knowledge of this message.
"Anytime we potentially wanted to go down the road of asking questions related to the president, it was 'That's gonna take too much approvals. We can't ask those questions."
Ziegler said he expected extra approvals when investigating the son of a president, but he said the requests went unmet.
There would be a point to where it would be like, 'Well, let's think about it. Let's put that on the back burner.' And it would now move down to item number 50," Ziegler said.
President Biden has denied any involvement in his son's business affairs.
"I have not taken a penny from any foreign source, ever, in my life," Mr. Biden said in October 2020 at a presidential debate.
Ziegler says he only came forward publicly at the request of Congress, adding, "I do this with a heavy heart. This is awful. It's not a fun experience to go through this. I don't wish this upon anyone."

Hunter Biden Called Joe at Least 24 Times During Business Meetings With Clients When His Father Was VP, First Son's Ex-Best Friend Will Tell CongressStory by Richard Burkard • 6h ago
A former friend of Hunter Biden reportedly saw him add then-Vice President Joe Biden to several phone calls with business partners, in a story Knewz.com is watching.
Hunter's former business partner Devon Archer is expected to spill details about his relationship with the president’s son when he appears before the House Oversight Committee in coming days.
On Sunday, July 23, a New York Post columnist wrote that Archer will talk about his work with Hunter Biden when both were directors of the Ukrainian energy company Burisma.
Oversight Chair Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.) said Archer will discuss “all the times he has witnessed Joe Biden meeting with Hunter Biden’s overseas business partners when he was vice president, including on speakerphone.”
The announcement came after what Knewz has reported was weeks of negotiations between Archer and the House Oversight Committee.
The Washington Examiner reported Archer canceled three appointments to provide a deposition to the committee. His original deadline to file one was Friday, June 16.
The Biden father-son phone connections reportedly happened at least two dozen times.
Archer reportedly saw one case on a Friday night in December 2015, when the owner of Burisma placed an urgent call to Hunter Biden at a bar in Dubai.
That supposedly led to Hunter Biden connecting with his father, putting the father on speakerphone and arranging a conference with two Burisma executives.
Three days after that call, the vice president flew to Ukraine to speak to the parliament against corruption.
A Ukrainian general who investigated corruption at Burisma was fired in March 2016, after Vice President Biden threatened to block U.S. aid for the country.
Archer also reportedly will mention two business dinners Hunter Biden arranged in Washington. They may have brought the then-vice president together with executives from Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan.
Yet the president denies he knew anything about Hunter Biden’s business projects in eastern Europe and China.
The conference calls Archer heard apparently will not be proof of bribery. Archer reportedly heard Joe Biden only make small talk with overseas executives.
Archer, 48, is caught up of troubles of his own and is facing more than a year in jail after his conviction in a $60 million bond fraud scheme in 2018.
But another former business partner says the overall picture shows influence peddling by the Biden family.
“I would equate it to a chairman’s role in a traditional business structure,” Tony Bobulinski said.
The Post added that Archer has received death threats since Comer announced that he would testify before Congress.
The House Republican probe into the Biden family soon may get a break. Congress will begin its traditional August recess, with no scheduled sessions until after Labor Day.

New Details: It's Looking Even Worse for the Bidens...and the FBIGuy Benson
July 24, 2023 12:15 PM
On Friday, we analyzed a just-released FBI 'FD-1023' document, in which a trusted FBI informant asserted that executives from Burisma -- the Ukrainian energy company that famously employed then-Vice President Joe Biden's son, despite his dearth of relevant expertise, while the elder Biden was running point on Ukraine policy in the Obama administration -- had described a multimillion-dollar bribery scheme that enriched both of the aforementioned Bidens. The Bureau's confidential human source (CHS) told investigators that the Burisma leaders held a dim view of Hunter Biden's personal value and intellect, but kept the generous payments flowing to him because Hunter would "take care of all of those issues through his dad.” The function of the younger Biden, the company's CFO reportedly said, was “to protect us, through his dad, from all kinds of problems.”
One such problem, allegedly, was an investigation by a Ukrainian prosecutor into Burisma, which the firm's leadership wanted to go away. To that end, per former federal prosecutor Andy McCarthy's summary of the CHS' accusations, "the founder of Burisma recounted being pressured by then-Vice President Joe Biden to put Biden’s son Hunter on the Ukrainian energy company’s board, and for $10 million in bribes — $5 million each to Joe and Hunter Biden — in order to use Biden’s political influence to force the firing of a Ukrainian prosecutor who was investigating Burisma." That man was, in fact, fired, after Vice President Biden explicitly linked the firing as a prerequisite for unlocking $1 billion is US taxpayer aid. Biden subsequently boasted about this very episode in public remarks.
The Federalist's Margot Cleveland immediately noted that the CHS' account directly contradicted Biden's explanation for triggering the firing, writing that the Burisma executive's alleged statement to the CHS "proves significant because Joe Biden had long claimed he pushed for Shokin’s firing because Shokin was not investigating Burisma — which is the exact opposite of the details summarized in the FD-1023." The FD-1023 includes a recollection from the CHS, who said Burisma bigwigs weren't concerned about the claimed $10 million in bribery funds ever being discovered because they "did not send funds directly to “the big guy” (a reference to Joe Biden), and that the payments to the Bidens had been routed through so many companies and bank accounts that it would take investigators ten years to trace the payments to Joe Biden." As we pointed out,
Recommended
House Oversight Committee Republicans have produced bank records showing millions of dollars in foreign (largely Chinese) money flowing to nine different Biden family members through an intricate series of shell corporations -- quite possibly underscoring a modus operandi, at the very least.
My reaction to all of this was to highlight the serious nature of the informant's allegations, while also remaining healthily skeptical and asking more questions. One central question was whether any of the CHS' statements in the document were ever corroborated. If not, was that because they weren't investigated, or because they were probed and found to be unreliable? And if so, wouldn't that be a big deal? Again writing at The Federalist, Cleveland cites a source "familiar with the briefing" who says FBI agents did confirm several components of the CHS' story before handing the information off to the Delaware investigation -- who seem to have dropped those leads. If this is true, this isn't just more smoke engulfing the Bidens; it's another scandal at the DOJ and FBI:
The Federalist has now learned that the Pittsburgh FBI office had corroborated several details contained in the FD-1023 as part of the intake process that former Attorney General William Barr established before the election under the leadership of the Western District of Pennsylvania’s then-U.S. Attorney Scott Brady. Significantly, in briefing the Delaware U.S. attorney on the results of their office’s screening of evidence related to Ukraine, the Pittsburgh FBI agents told the Delaware office they had corroborated multiple facts included in the FD-1023, an individual with knowledge of the briefing told The Federalist. Following the late June 2020 interview with the CHS, the Pittsburgh FBI office obtained travel records for the CHS, and those records confirmed the CHS had traveled to the locales detailed in the FD-1023 during the relevant time period. The trips included a late 2015 or early 2016 visit to Kiev, Ukraine; a trip a couple of months later to Vienna, Austria; and travel to London in 2019.
The Federalist has also learned that the CHS’s handler corroborated the CHS’s claim that he had met with Oleksandr Ostapenko. According to the source with knowledge of the matter, the CHS’s handler told Pittsburgh’s FBI agents that the CHS told his handler he had an upcoming meeting with Ostapenko. The CHS’s contemporaneous claim of the planned rendezvous with Ostapenko tracked the timing of one of the visits the CHS claimed in the FD-1023 to have had with Ostapenko...That the Pittsburgh FBI office not only provided the Delaware office with a summary of the damning FD-1023 and its conclusion that it bore indicia of credibility but also identified several pieces of corroborating evidence is huge because, to date, it appears the Delaware office did nothing to investigate the allegations contained in the FD-1023.
If elements of the FBI actually corroborated multiple elements of the FD-1023, wouldn't that make it a more vetted and confirmed document than, say, the infamous Steele Dossier? And if the Delaware investigators ignored the CHS evidence, the obvious question is, why? Law professor Jonathan Turley said on Fox News Sunday yesterday that when it comes to the Biden family, it appears as though the FBI is where "evidence goes to die." Cleveland adds more context, tying these revelations back to last week's IRS whistleblower testimony before Congress:
The Pittsburgh office lacked the authority to subpoena witnesses or records or to use grand jury proceedings to further corroborate the FD-1023. That responsibility fell with the Delaware office. But not only did the Delaware office apparently ignore the allegations contained in the FD-1023, as well as the corroborating evidence already allegedly accumulated by the Pittsburgh FBI office, but U.S. Attorney David Weiss’s office allegedly secreted the very existence of the FD-1023 from the whistleblowers. Both IRS whistleblowers testified last week that they did not even learn of the existence of the FD-1023 until Barr publicly confirmed he had sent the information to Delaware for further investigation. Delaware Assistant U.S. Attorney Lesley Wolf also excluded the IRS agents working the Hunter Biden investigation from the meeting at which the Pittsburgh FBI agents briefed the office on the FD-1023 and the corroborating evidence they had already uncovered.
On Special Report Friday, one of the IRS whistleblowers (the gay registered Democrat, I'll note) said he'd never had access to the 1023 form or its explosive allegations over the course of his extensive work on the case. He added that having such information in his possession could have been very important and relevant to his investigation. And then there's this, which could be very significant:
Hunter Biden would dial in his father, then-Vice President Joe Biden, on speakerphone into meetings with his overseas business partners, according to testimony expected before Congress this week from Devon Archer, the first son’s former best friend. Archer, 48, who is facing jail for his role in a $60 million bond fraud, is scheduled to testify to the House Oversight Committee about meetings he witnessed that were attended by Joe Biden either in person or via speakerphone when Hunter would call his father and introduce him to foreign business partners or prospective investors. One such meeting was in Dubai late in the evening of Friday, Dec. 4, 2015, after a board meeting of the Ukrainian energy company Burisma, which was paying Hunter $83,000 a month as a director. Archer, who also was a director, is expected to testify that, after dinner with the Burisma board at the Burj Al Arab Hotel, he and Hunter traveled six miles north to the Four Seasons Resort Dubai at Jumeirah Beach to have a drink with one of Hunter’s friends.
While they were sitting outside at the bar, Vadym Pozharskyi, a senior Burisma executive, phoned to ask where they were because Burisma’s owner, Mykola Zlochevsky, needed to speak to Hunter urgently. Soon afterward, the two Ukrainians joined Hunter and Archer at the Four Seasons bar and Pozharskyi asked Hunter: “Can you ring your dad?” At the time it was early afternoon Friday in Washington, DC. Hunter then called his father, put him on speaker, placed the phone on the table, and introduced the Ukrainians to Joe Biden by name as “Nikolai and Vadym.” He also said words to the effect that the Burisma bigwigs “need our support.” VP Biden greeted the Ukrainians but spoke only in vague pleasantries during the short call, and in other such interactions with Hunter’s overseas business partners, Archer is expected to testify.
Consider this alleged timing:
They will note the context, that three days after the speakerphone call, the then-vice president, who was the Obama administration’s point man for Ukraine, was due to fly to Kyiv to address the Ukrainian parliament, known as the Rada, on Dec. 9, 2015, about the “poison of cronyism, corruption, and kleptocracy.” Ten weeks before the call, on Sept. 24, 2015, US Ambassador Geoffrey Pyatt had given a speech about corruption in Odessa, in which he targeted Zlochevsky by name. By then, Ukrainian Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin was investigating Burisma for corruption and, within two months, on Feb. 2, 2016, would seize four houses in Kyiv, two plots of land and a Rolls-Royce belonging to Zlochevsky, who was living in exile in Dubai. A month later, Shokin was fired, after Joe Biden threatened to withhold $1 billion in US aid to Ukraine.
It's a sure bet that Democrats will impugn Archer as a fraudster and a criminal (what would they consider Hunter Biden?), and will say that even if the conversation in question took place, Joe Biden's "vague pleasantries" aren't incriminating. There are reasons to be skeptical of Archer, but there are reasons to be skeptical of the Bidens, too. And according to Archer, Hunter looped dad in on foreign business calls "as many as two dozen times" in his presence. Remember, it's not just Devon Archer who says 'The Big Guy' was indeed a part of Hunter's overseas business schemes. Another Biden business associate, Tony Bobulinski, has repeatedly stated on the record that Joe Biden was absolutely aware of, an even involved in, such dealings. Including evidence. There are also multiple reports confirming that the older Biden met in person with various figures in Hunter's business orbit, including some photographic evidence. Biden has flat-out denied any such discussions, knowledge, or involvement, on multiple occasions. It seems more clear-cut than ever that those denials are false (watch to the end):
I'll leave you with my reactions this morning to these developments, including former Speaker Pelosi ridiculing the whistleblower hearings last week as a "clown show:"
