As the warden said, he hasn't converted. He's playing a game.

There is a game in the prison system I call The Get Over Game. Inmates play it by requesting something. Paper, food, a couple of more minutes on the phone. A few more minutes out of their cell. Things like that. everytime they get what they request they have got over. They win. So its time to move to the next request. It's a mental game they play with all the guards to see where the weak points are. A form of intimidation.

This guy is playing the get over game.

If he's an apostate though he may be in for some strife unless, taking Gaffer's point, this is a ploy for which he may have been given clearance from Islam Central (not that there is an Islam Central, just me being silly).
