IMO, NATO has always been important. Again, IMO US would be well served dropping the hand tying of UN and concentrating keeping up NATO capabilities.

Congress sitting around wailing and gnashing teeth acting like they're looking high and low for this illusive money to cover their irresponsible spending and there's a big chunk of it right there.

Beats me why the orange gorilla in the china shop would target NATO rather than the UN. NATO at least presents some benefits.
