I'm personally getting tired of the "shock" teasers by our local news. During otherwise good TV, 15 second spots run where the anchor says something alarming, promising to tell you the WHOLE deal if you watch their program later.

"Tsunami coming soon! Could strike coastal towns in 15 minutes...find out where the waves will hit, at 11!"

"If you live in ONE Western Washington City, drinking from your tap may cause instant death! Find out which city is affected, at 11!"

The worst part is, the News Channels try to get people to believe they are "The Home Team" - that they CARE about their community.

The drama sells. Similar to all those "may have linked" stories about scientists. Those "may have" stories will have you thinking complete white room sterilization if you allow them.

Yeah, it's all about what sells. But, here's the thing: if it really was a legitimate emergency, they'd be interrupting the broadcast with it, I think.

Dan, scientists "may have" found a link that masturbation causes tennis elbow, real bad for guitarists. :D They won't interrupt the broadcast to tell you that one.

How about when they say 'this just in' and proceed to tell you about a story you read on the internet three hours ago....
