The country is a key part of the 15-nation partnership that has kept the ISS orbiting Earth for 23 years but relations are at an all-time low because of Russia's decision to invade Ukraine.

On Thursday, Joe Biden unveiled new sanctions that he said would "degrade" Russia's "aerospace industry, including their space programme".

Russia's space chief hit back on Twitter, asking whether the US wants to "destroy our cooperation on the ISS".
Roscosmos Director General Dmitry Rogozin warned that Russian engines control the station's orbit and location.

"If you block cooperation with us, who will save the International Space Station (ISS) from an uncontrolled de-orbit and fall into the United States or...Europe?" he said.

Isn't the ISS abandoned? Should probably consider shooting it down. If we still have any technology left to do so.

The only way we can get there now is to ask Elon Musk to ferry our astronauts up and back since Barry the Failure killed off the shuttle program and I am certain we won’t be working with the Russians to get up there any longer.

If I were Musk I would tell Biden’s lackeys to shove it and wait until we had a government that didn’t call him a scumbag and a tax cheat every five minutes. The short sightedness of the left is hobbling us on all fronts.

In Rogozin's series of tweets, he claimed the sanctions could have severe consequences for the ISS and "destroy" international co-operation related to the ISS.

Another of his tweets said: "There is also the option of dropping a 500-ton structure to India and China. Do you want to threaten them with such a prospect? The ISS does not fly over Russia, so all the risks are yours. Are you ready for them?"

Musk appeared to confirm that SpaceX would get involved, should the ISS fall out of orbit. A Twitter user asked if that's what the tech mogul really meant, to which Musk simply replied: "Yes."
