The Marine Corps is ALWAYS over its allotted max number of personnel (225k). Reality without war was about 285k. I have no idea what they bumped up to during Iraq/Afghanistan.

For the Marine Corps, this is a gift from Heaven. While one side of the argument is "the Marine Corps is getting rid of its best and brightest, free-thinkers", the Marine Corps side is getting rid of disciplinary problems who are refusing a lawful order.

There's no real hard math here from the Marine side of things. Get your shot or get out and quit whining. Cry to Congressman Charlie about what you think are your "Rights" on your own time.

The fact that they are being given General discharges instead of prosecuted speaks to the drawdown, and political and fiscal expediency. I watched a few Marines "make" Private from Sgt and get kicked out with other than Honorable discharges for refusing anthrax vaccine.

It's just the way it is.
