What is creating division in our country?

I have spoken before about many dumb things that will only serve to create more division in our country, not uniting. We have seen many black only, or no whites allowed, or POC (people of color only) events... almost exclusively in education, which is a great place to teach younger people about life and preparing them. :rolleyes:

If you separate people of color from white people, that instantly creates division. Who wouldn't be offended? Have a whites only classes and see how well that goes over. And it's just as offensive.

The best ideas are to bring people together, to unite people. You simply cannot unite people if they aren't around and together in some manner. You cannot purposely separate people and then expect unity.

8th best college in the USA and 10th best college in the world as per rankings. And they have this. :rolleyes: Online or not it's a load of shit.

Load of shit if hosted in person or online. And doing together at other times does not excuse it.

Columbia University will hold six graduation ceremonies that are divided by race and socio-economic status alongside general commencement.

“Complementing our school- and University-wide ceremonies, these events provide a more intimate setting for students and guests to gather, incorporate meaningful cultural traditions and celebrate the specific contributions and achievements of their communities,” the university said.

Exactly, 60 years ago, and now coming back in ways. Kids should never be taught that such segregation is acceptable. They should be, IMO, from 1st grade 12th, and then in college as well, should be being FORCED into group settings. Not only is it better for what the real world will bring them - but also hopefully push it beyond what they may see in the real world. This way hopefully going forward it will slowly help or benefit in some manner.

There is still this natural separation between black and white everywhere. From different neighborhoods to different colleges and now starting to segregate in those colleges.

I remember back in the 60's when our High School began having dances for the white kids, and then the black kids. It was to keep them from fighting, and because of the different styles in music.

Carry that further, into my Navy days, and it wasn't unusual on my first ship...1965, where the black sailors always intentionally segregated together for card games, and even on the Mess decks for meals, as well as in the berthing spaces where they tried to always remain together.

Advance forward to the last years I was in the Navy...1995. The black sailors staked out their own corner of the Mess decks again, and they all ate together, and sadly...destroyed the great bench seating (like in restaurants) by abusing it, tearing it, and complaining it wasn't taken care of properly.

So...they are INTENTIONALLY doing this to themselves. SEGREGATION has never gone away. If so. Why are their so many large city GHETTO's where onlyl Blacks live???
