I feel good tonight.
A volunteer from Working America called and asked for a contribution to fight for national healthcare. Of course, I said yes.
That reminded me that I had to make a contribution to MoveOn.org to fund more ads. So I did.
I'll sleep well tonight.

I WISH we had a 'who gives a shit?' forum...we don't, so the lounge will have to suffice. :)

I just got ready 19 bags of stuff for the Purple Heart Vets. No regrets. Included are clothes; electronics including my dad's electric shaver ($200+ Braun), multiple computers/monitors and printers). Funny, not one regret.

Thanks. It wasn't easy going through the 'things'. He did a good job of vetting in the last few months. It's weird, realizing he cleaned so many things out since the cancer diagnosis. I keep thinking of him climbing the stairs, to make things easier on my brother and I, he did. We remember.

If national health care ever happens, you will be sure to have many more happy nights of *forced* contributions. :coffee:

I was asking if the funding for a universal health care system, if one were to be instituted in the US, would be funded from general revenue, that is, from taxes.

reminds me of all the so called anti war rallies, that are really, the kill jews, communist, secularist, socialist, left wingers, and democratic sheep, that say slogans a 5 year old could come up with.
I have no problem with them protesting, but atleast be honest about who you are, and what your true intentions are.

Taxes are not necessarily general revenue. Under Fund Accounting rules, revenue is segregated by purpose, i.e. it is put into funds. A tax to fund health care would would be put into a health care fund (or collected by a specialized agency much the same as FICA revenue goes to the Social Security Administration.)
This facilitates accurate accounting and budgeting.

For starters, I'm calling you out, I don't think you donated a dime. Care to prove to us your donation to MoveOn? I think you make such statements simply for effect.
And you say that I spin? LOL This coming from the dolt who claims MM makes claims based on "rhetorical convenience"! :laugh2:
No offense, but your contributions would be looked at with more dignity if you weren't bragging about them on a message board.

I looked at their website. They are backed by unions and the AFL-CIO. They are "pro" working families, and "anti" rich. Good idea if you don't align yourself with such a polarizing entity as the AFL-CIO. If they would cross the lines between parties they may be more successful.

Sorry bout that,
1. But if Hillary gets into power, watch out!
2. I think what she is proposing is more of the same, but extra.
3. All tax payers who get a check will be required to pay another tax.
4. You know where it says what taxes were withheld on your the pay stub?
5. Expect to see another pay area, called the, *HHCF*, short for *Hillary Health Care Fund*
6. Yeah you suckers better wake up!:laugh2:
7. And get on the phone and start ranking on Hillary's plans again.

Yes, they would be paid for by taxes, levied on everyone but disproportionately on the successful members of society.

That's interesting. I'm not baiting you because that's an honest answer and I appreciate it but I'm going to ask a bit more. My asking might seem like baiting but it's not. This isn't about "right" or "wrong", it's about values and they are always relative.
When it comes to taxation my personal view is that taxation rates must be calculated carefully. But my base position is that the more you earn the more you should pay in taxes. And that's not out of envy but the simple idea that everyone who is gaining an income from society should pay to sustain that society. I'm not in favour of a flat tax so I have to favour a graduated tax regime. I think we should take less tax from the poor and more from the wealthy in a graduated fashion. Tax rates shouldn't be punitive of course, that would destroy an economy, but the tax burden shouldn't lay with the poorest, that would be simply unfair.

I am actually in favor of eliminating all income taxes and establishing a national ad valorem (value-added, or sales) tax, at around 20%-25%. That would be the most fair in my eyes, because all citizens, regardless of income, would pay the same tax rates. I'd even exempt expenses for food and housing from the sales tax, so that people aren't being taxed for the essentials of life. But I believe that all people should be treated equally by the government, and that should extend to taxation methods.

That's the way insurance works. Beneficiaries pay a premium and receive benefits if they need them. Most national health care plans are really national health insurance plans. They're just like private insurance except everyone is required to participate.

NOT to mention, their "universal" health "care."
My bus prof in undergrad was as canadian as you could get. This one day we get on health care/economies. Even he admitted that Canada's system is not perfect and that America's health care does provide some of the best services in the world.
I know people don't like to hear it, but, socialism breeds ineptness. You are paid no matter what you do. No incentive. Capitalism is not perfect, but it tends to bring out the best of the market and in terms of health, I'll take it. If I can't afford it, guess what, some quack down the street will at least have an idea of the best vs. some socialist quack who has no freakin idea because it doesn't matter the result, he/she WILL get paid.
Now that is scary.

No you just didn't ....
If I go out and bust my ass to make more, why should I have more of MY "more" confiscated by the government because Joe Blow the underachiever plans a career at McDonald's? It damned-sure isn't MY fault he's a dolt and wants to schlep off society.
But I'm damned-sure paying for his lack of motivation.
Tax should be flat-rate. If you make more, you STILL pay more, but you don't pay at a higher, unfair percentage to sustain the bottom-feeders.
