tailfins was kind enough to link to a few things to download to use the app outside of Apple and Google. Was easy for me, but I want to make it easier for my friends here that may be interested, so I can get you guys over there!

First thing you will likely want to do, is make it so that your phone will accept installing 3rd party applications outside of the markets. Hopefully these instructions are up to date enough to help.

(If you know things already, pass all this and go to the bottom where the download links are)

How to accept the install of 3rd party apps on Apple Iphones:

Manually install and trust an enterprise app

When you first open an enterprise app that you've manually installed, you see a notification that the developer of the app isn't trusted on your device. You can dismiss this message, but then you can't open the app.

https://i.imgur.com/NeyORDh.png

After you dismiss this message, you can establish trust for the app developer. Tap Settings > General > Profiles or Profiles & Device Management. Under the "Enterprise App" heading, you see a profile for the developer.

https://i.imgur.com/5aJszzN.png

Tap the name of the developer profile under the Enterprise App heading to establish trust for this developer.

https://i.imgur.com/ofASwwK.png

Then you see a prompt to confirm your choice. After you trust this profile, you can manually install other apps from the same developer and open them immediately. This developer remains trusted until you use the Delete App button to remove all apps from the developer.

https://i.imgur.com/KJN2dg7.png

You must be connected to the Internet to verify the app developer's certificate when establishing trust. If you're behind a firewall, make sure that it's configured to allow connections to https://ppq.apple.com. If you aren't connected to the Internet when you trust an app, the device displays "Not Verified" instead. To use the app, connect to the Internet and tap the Verify App button.

After you verify an app for the first time, your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch must reverify the app developer's certificate periodically to maintain trust. If you can't reverify, you may see a message that verification will expire soon. To maintain trust, connect your device to the Internet, then tap the Verify App button or launch the app.

How to accept the install of 3rd party apps on Android

Install unknown apps permission option is located in the setting app. So…

At first, open the android default Setting app.
Then click on the new Apps and Notifications menu.
Now click the Special Access button. (follow below screenshot) (Gotta click on the 3 dot menu and then click special access on my Samsung phone)

https://i.imgur.com/XeWQ5LHl.png

Now click Install unknown apps. Then you can see your all app list.

https://i.imgur.com/55Uh6CEl.png

Now click on the app you want to allow third party apps.
Now you can see a new screen like the below screenshot.

https://i.imgur.com/tLYdyWXl.png

Now click the Allow from this source button.

Now your install third party app option is enabled. So, go back to your app and tap on an APK file. Now you can install any android apps on your phone.

https://appreviewcity.com/allow-third-party-apps-android-8/

This is a direct download here. It's from the Google App store, so it works. It's an APK file installer, or at least the one I use:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=braveheart.apps.apkinstaller&hl=en_US

And rather than jump through hoops, this you can download here to your phone, then use the APK installer to install it (MAKE SURE you note where you download it to, wherever your download folder may be)

Well, not the 1st time I used a 3rd party app, so it was easy for me. But never had to do so due to censorship before.

** Would not surprise me if Google devises a way to detect the app on your phone and delete it. Now THAT would be going too far, but like I said, they basically control your phone in many ways if using Android, as I do of course.

Nope! I'm going to GAB. They have their own servers and can't be shut down.

I'm just grateful that our internet access isn't heavily rationed so that we can download the APKs instead of asking people in the town square if they would be kind enough to copy a needed APK to my jump drive. Imagine only having internet as wifi near a town square or university, somewhat slow, US$ 1 per GB and only in places where a cop can look over your shoulder to arrest you for viewing objectionable content, which means constantly looking behind you or having a mirror in the corner of your laptop.

Amazon shut down Parler.

Always a way to shut them down if they want, trust me!

First things I noticed is that their nameservers resolve to cloudflare.com. But they can build their own DNS servers. But something somewhere is always tied to services. I also noticed that they registered the domain gab.com with epik.com domain services. Much more rare, but they can do things to the domain, but that's more difficult and as stated, more rare.

But they do have a nice setup and much more sturdy than others and more in house services.

I just registered there and am using Parler as well. Amazon may cut them for a bit but they'll be back.

What the hell with Apple and Amazon trying to interfere with people's access to Parler? It's not because of the kind of messaging on Parler, let's face it, it's because of the kind of conservative messaging on Parler. This is denial of freedom of speech, as is the disabling of Trump's social media accounts.

This is the kind of crap that goes on in Communist states. I don't recognize this country anymore.

Not exactly a free speech issue. But I digress; you don't recognize this country because private enterprises are taking action against buffoonish behavior on their platforms but you recognized it 5 days ago when buffoonish behavior was occuring?

I haven’t “recognized” it since the BLM “peaceful protests” (read: riots) were given a pass last year. And your implication that I was/am OK with the Capitol riots is wrong and nasty.

Maybe not free speech but definitely a control the narrative issue.

And, the private company is not targeting buffonish behavior or they would have shut down BLM and their followers such as Kamala Harris and others. They are taking action against conservative voices and you know it fj so don't try to justify their actions because you don't like Trump.

That may be but didn't seem to be the time frame referenced. FWIW I think the campaign that trump ran was abysmal; at least from the ads that I was seeing and the debate performances. That he didn't lose by that much is fairly impressive... of course that's gone down the toilet. The Loeffler and Perdue ads for the runoff weren't much better either but maybe all the other side had to do was point out stock trades and agree with trump about $2000 checks.

Those are two different things but I don't expect much from the media and big tech. I do expect more from our side and it was sorely lacking.

But I'm not justifying their actions, just trying to figure out what you want to happen if other than to jump to Parler or wherever. Would you like a new rule or government regulation to fix it?

I would also like to see a listing of which conservatives have been banned outside of the alt-right/QAnon nut jobs. A quick search shows conservatives moving over but not necessarily being banned.

What I want to happen is for TOS to be applied even handed and not heavy handed. They can still have their terms of service but it's disgusting that they banned Trump but not dictators from other countries. Or even Harris or other democrats that incite and brazenly call for violence. That's the rub! Don't you find that a little repulsive? And hypocritical? Why would anyone want to stay with a company that is so fickle?

And the thing about QAnon ... so what if they are conspiracists? We have a forum here for conspiracies. We don't ban people for saying what they want. If GAB sees anyone posting illegal things they report it to LE. Why ban people because they want to talk about stuff they're concerned about? Give it light so it can be dissected. The more platforms try to ban it the more they feed the conspiracy. I have to tell you I wasn't that interested in QAnon until the last 48 hours and now I want to go find out what all the fuss is about .... precisely because they've been banned.

Go to GAB and people will tell you why they been banned or deplatformed. One doctor was banned for posting about hydrocholoquine for covid treatment. Not a nut job just a dissenting voice.

You can certainly wish for TOS to be applied equally, I'm not hopeful. But the starting point is not to defend trump 4 days ago it's to present good conservative thought and not abandon one thing for another. It's another shift to tribalistic behavior; CNN for liberals Fox for conservatives, twitter for liberals parler for conservatives. It's a long-term losing strategy IMO.

That's a ridiculous comparison. If anyone were shocked by buffoonish behavior then they'd spend there entire life in a state of catatonic shock. We all see incredibly buffoonish behavior 365 days a year.

I totally disagree with two things you just said:

1. "private enterprises" - I consider Twitter and Facebook to now be utilities, used as a common method of communication and with little in the way of alternatives. The fact that Parler, one of the few alternatives, is being hindered from access for most people is evidence that they want to preserve their oligopoly/monopoly status.

2. "taking action against buffoonish behavior" - the amount of hate-filled, violent, and inappropriate messaging Twitter and Facebook has allowed over the years is a ton. Just the calls to riot last year that they left up was a ton. The only thing that is different now is the Trump factor. He's virtually the only thing they've ever filtered.

I'm not even a follower, but I can see what Twitter and Facebook's motivations are, and I don't like what will come next if they are allowed to selectively filter what everyone's allowed to say and allowed to hear. At the very least, both should be regulated as utilities. And maybe they are in restraint of trade and should be trust busted.

I'm not sure what comparison I was making, I was asking a question. But we don't see irrational stormings of the capitol building 365 days a year.

1. They are private enterprises but I think we can now put you down in the net neutrality camp. I believe open internet is one of the principles.

2. I agree that they should non-partisan. But I'm also not so sure that I want a government board to be in the position of decider for those things that would eventually get banned.

I don't follow either. I think social media is evil.

Not defending anyone. I'm appalled that we've allowed social media to become so powerful they can muzzle anyone and yet they only muzzle dissenting viewpoints from their liberal progressive ideology. Totally socialist behavior and if that means breaking up the monolithic then so be it. fj1200
What do you propose as a solution to the media oligarchs?

They didn't just muzzle the president they are trying to destroy their competition. And with the complicity of the main stream media and Democrat leaders who took campaign bribes.

This whole experience might be for the best. It should be a wake up call regarding one's business targeted by "Big Tech". It's just another exercise in risk analysis and mitigation. For example, sometimes it makes good business sense to set up a business in a Communist country in a manner similar to Sherritt International https://www.sherritt.com/English/operations/default.aspx .

You include the risk of nationalization in your ROI calculations. Executives should not do in-person visits to the operations to mitigate the risk of being considered an enemy of the state.

This destruction by Big Tech should be considered a kind of stress test for independent businesses. The survival of Parler is now an indicator of the US business ability to operate independently and not become a Vichy France kind of environment.

I find it really dangerous that so few companies have such a large reach in our population. Parler was a place where people could go to express their voice, ideas, thoughts, etc. But with Google, Apple and Amazon taking action, Parler is effectively gone in a matter of days. So doing my best to decouple from these companies as much as possible. Any suggestions for an email service would be great. Have been using gmail for a few years, actually like it but want to get away from gmail. Will stop buying from Amazon, using Prime video and Amazon music. My wife loves reading so replacing the prime kindle availability will be tough but not impossible.

Folks waiting on Parler and Gab or another choice for now, like me.... maybe we can get a few friends over here to join and post, even if just for the gap between hosting issues for them. :thumb: Would be nice anyway. :)

I tell everyone the same - forget online services and setup locally on your computer using your ISP's services. I have "optonline.net" addresses for example as that's my provider. I do use the others too, but mainly for spam and what not.

Another that I can HIGHLY recommend if folks are concerned about security or free speech and ads or that crap. That is Proton Mail - https://protonmail.com/

Uses also 2 factor authentication and is the most secure I've ever used. It's also available for telephones too. Might be a tad overkill though. If just looking to be private, no ads and off the Google grid - local email should suffice. Then you have to use an email program, and make sure you pick one that won't read and pull a Google on you!

There are others but then we're moving into the paid world, and I ain't paying!! :)

Yahoo is owned by Verizon. I still have a couple of those email accounts.

I switched to Gmail a couple of years ago, but I'm decoupling from Google as much as I can.

The people who own Apple items are in a bad spot, because Apple has been locking down all of their products to maintain 100% control of the software for years now, and now those consumers are trapped. Apple can and does act with impunity and there's no recourse other than each consumer shelling out many thousands of dollars to get away from their iron grip. I've always found Apple's business practices distasteful... thuggish, even.

It seems I can barely get to their site, but when it does load, then the internal links seem to work, oddly. But the sign up page is quite slow and then if you do bother filling it out and hitting enter, it hangs forever and ultimately comes back and tells you they are under maintenance.

So for now, I can only assume that since you already have an account you may be good to go, but joining right now is near impossible.

Yes, Google, Apple and Amazon are surely gaining goodwill as they interfere with millions of Americans' internet right now.

Trump fucked up a lot of things on his way out that will harm his overall legacy. As a result of all of this, not only will things he has accomplished be forgotten, millions of his supporters will be caught up in this and labeled not much differently.

Facts are - take away all the negative, which I admit. Take away the rhetoric or whatever it is that millions of folks individually don't like about him. That said, I look at his promised and his agenda, and how many of those promises did he keep & how much did he accomplish overall. And I suppose even there folks are gonna debate and argue over whether the stuff was good & where it stands on the political scale (conservatism to liberalism). I still stand behind what I have long said - that he DID complete many of his promises and he did get a lot of good things accomplished, some overall just great and many as well conservative issues. Again, this is if one is willing to put things and opinions and feelings aside and just the issues. There's always going to be an "even then" as you can never please everyone.

He has put in a few SC justices along with many other judges across the land. Appellate and district court and apparently over 60 more still awaiting confirmation.
Great tax cuts (kiss them goodbye) - and my favorite - deregulation by 2 down for every one addition.
Massive military increases - if you like that, which I love as security should be one of the highest if not highest as it is.
Israel and standing behind them.
And deserves a second line, which is the peace deals that were negotiated with other Arab countries.
Operation warp speed. This year was the worst ever. But since it happened, a vaccine just had to happen as well. The plan went into action, and was somehow magically completed in less than a year. More credit goes to the medical folks, of which all got together and shared and made it happen.
Back to space again, and from a private company!!
Knock on wood for now - but what happened to Isis?
I think he did quite good for our economy overall, but increased debt too

Much more too. And yes, a lot more bad in there too, no doubt and no argument from me. But all I'm saying with this info - is that the past few weeks will allow democrats the opportunity to rewrite and forget much of history, which they would attempt anyway. And done in by his "own people"! Which were not of the norm and not nearly representative of the overall percentage of Trump supporters.

Can we add a good portion of "the Wall" and calming Kim Jong Un the heck down when he was going off the rails?

It's on the list, but I just didn't add it, was making it short as possible. And while I know it was partly successful in the face of the worst ever blocking... since the entire thing wasn't completed some will fight and claim it was a failure, of which it wasn't. He got plenty of miles of wall up, and as I said, all in the face of the worst obstruction I have ever seen over national security at our borders.

And it wasn't the massive and unbeatable wall he wanted, nor the completion as I said. But improvements overall is what was needed. A complete wall as he envisioned would have been perfect! But IMO, ANYTHING that prevents the cartel and other drug runners from easily hopping the border and getting in with $billions$ of drugs is a good thing. Any wall going up that blocks the entry from illegals entering the country. Different folks require different level of wall IMO. And anything short of it's entirety leaves a security issue.

And then, at worst, the minimum that should have been done and still should - would be taking the border wall that they walk over easily and beefing it up.

---

The future? Add "simple" fencing, which is tall fencing that's mostly not able to be climbed, perhaps even with razor wire at the top. Have monitors in the ground so that anyone approaching will set off an alarm. Have drones and cameras. Technology will be the future of security, I believe.

--

And it was a decent job with Kim Jong Un there for a spell. I actually believed they were going to be able to not only establish new relations, but actually get them to work with the world. Well, he did get him to back off some - but then that was it.

And trust me, the list of his accomplishments is Much longer, but didn't want to post a massive debatable list right now. But we could make that thread!! Would be decent material to go over and dissect!

I just wish we could all realize, that life before "social media" was good and much more family friendly. People were more likely to be happy. Less likely to be assholes.

Social media should not be a lifeline, but a tool. But sadly for many, it has become part of their souls. Personally I can live without it.

I hate what it has done to EVERYONE!

Republican politicians stank to high heaven way before Trump.

Blanket statements aren't really the way to go here.

Yes, he did. He turned the IRS loose on them.

I dispute that they were crushed by that.

Trump fucked up a lot of things on his way out that will harm his overall legacy. As a result of all of this, not only will things he has accomplished be forgotten, millions of his supporters will be caught up in this and labeled not much differently.

...

And that will probably be the end of the positive things. If had any ability to campaign and debate Biden, of all people, maybe he could have pointed out the successes and what he did to push those things through but he didn't have that ability. But it was... All. So. Avoidable.

Like I said, it would be debatable, but the list is a LOT LOT longer than that. It's not about that anyway, about how long the list of accomplishments may be or how many promises he kept. I primarily would post the list to those who state he accomplished absolutely nothing, zero, nada. Usual crap from some lefties out there. Fact is, like him or not, he did get some shit done outside the normal. But even that stuff I think will be forgotten to an extent, where when folks will try to discuss anything at all - it will be "riot riot riot", sadly. One shouldn't negate the other, but it will.

Amen to that!
