Applied to and was accepted into a decent program. Although they offer various formats to be displayed, they 'demand' all forums deliver pop-under ads since the CTR on regular ads perform so poorly. These are delivered on a 1/24 basis. This means a small add will pop-up behind the main screen when visiting here no more than one time every 24hrs. Of course those with appropriate blockers will never see them.
Why? Well, the donation route wasn't effective and the bills need to be paid, and honestly, I'm having trouble with it.
Thoughts?

I think you need to do what you need to do. If that means pop-up advertising, so be it.

Dude - just don't do the little ads which underline key words. :-/
I mean, i use Firefox w/ ad-blocker, but for those on Explorer, it's a pita. :(

I hate those damn double underlined words too! I'm not 100% sold on adding the pop-unders just yet. I'm currently doing a little investigating to see what type of income can be expected monthly based on projections. If it's not worth it, then they won't be implemented. But I figured it's better than letting the bills go unpaid!

Do whatever is best for you.
I have a dumb question: Is it one ad per 24 hrs., or one ad per 24 hr's per member log in?

You gotta do what's best for you!!

It would be one per 24hrs whether you login or not. It would be based on serving it to a unique IP address no more than once in that 24hr span.

Ya know what, I vowed a long time ago I would never resort to popups/popunders on this site. I'm going back to the Paypal option and if that doesn't pan out I'll just have to figure out a less intrusive way to support the board.
Sorry for the false alarm! I know everyone hates forced advertising, and I do to!

I hate pop-ups. This computer blocks them most of the time but the one in the other room is messed up and I get pounded with them. SPend more time closing out boxes then reading.

To keep an excellent forum such as this one up and running sometimes you just have to do what you have to do. If popunders are what it takes, go get em! :D
Do what you gotta do, this site is definitely the least-advertised-on free board I go to, so I got no problem with having to close a pop-up once a day.

Exactly. The rest of us can put up or shut up. Doesn't seem much of an inconvenience to me.

If its what you gotta its what you gotta do. If theres no other option in order to sustain the board then I think everyone will agree that its the right thing to do.
Most computers have blockers.

271 members to date 2 / 3 $ a member i know it sounds easy but a large % of those members use this board more than they would / do a bar
nuff said im winging mine right now :salute:

Thank you, much appreciated! You've been added to the contributors list at the bottom of the board.
I don't take members contributions lightly, which is why I sometimes open threads asking members what they would like to see different about the board, what they would like added - maybe something they saw elsewhere. It's great that the bills get assistance but I'd like to also "repay" those who enjoy their time here by making the place even more fun. So any comments in that respect are certainly appreciated too.

I like shoutboxes. Just a thought.

I noticed that elsewhere! LOL
I'd have no problem implementing it if everyone was for it, but I personally think it would only take away from the threads. Whatever can be said in the SB can be written in a thread. But that's just my opinion, I'll let the masses decide!

Yeah but daily comments like I'm so bored, hungry, whatever can't really be made into threads. Plus general off the wall comments that pop into my head. You really wouldn't want me creating threads about.

Do what you need to, Jim. As you pointed out, anyone who wants to avoid advertisements can use Firefox (or one of a number of blocking methods) to avoid them. I know I don't mind the advertisements.
You gotta do what ya gotta do. I belong to a forum for the Civ game and they have one. It only comes up once and you can click the link to the forum to skip the ad. I'd rather put up with a few second distraction (once a day :)) that not have a site. Though I am not sure that Civ fansite is the same thing you are talking about. PM if you want and I can give you the site.

I am going to implement the code just for ONE 24hr period. Curiosity has the best of me and I need to see the performance. I WILL remove the code tomorrow morning - this is just a test!
I thought it was just one popup every 24 hours? I'm getting a popup with everything I click.

Yeah, put wrong code in at first but quickly changed it. Let me know how it is now!

Man tough popups, the school comps don't even block them. SO are you supposed to be getting them ever time you log in. Hope there aren't any porn ones if the school comps aren't blocking.

The code is probably conservative and biased against you! :laugh2:

They should only pop up once every 24hrs. No porn, the agency being used is quite legit and doesn't allow porn, gambling or other objectionable material.

Jim, you had Google ads on the previous site. Those are 1000 times better than popups IMO.

but you know what that's what makes the world go round, and in some cases pays the bills and if thats what you need to do then do it.
