UPDATED 6:44 AM PT — Friday, July 17, 2020The Trump administration is reportedly considering banning U.S. entry to Chinese Communist Party officials and their families.
According to the New York Times (https://www.nytimes.com/2020/07/15/us/politics/china-travel-ban.html), senior officials have begun circulating a draft of a potential presidential order, but the decision is still under discussion.
The move would allow the U.S. government to revoke visas of party members and their families who are already in the country. Beijing responded to the reports by calling the actions — if true — “pathetic.”
“We still hope that those U.S. policy makers can return to reason and can have a responsible attitude, be responsible to their own country, be responsible towards China-U.S. relations and be responsible to global peace and development,” stated Hua Chunying, spokeswoman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry. “And more reasonably and objectively view the China-U.S. relationship.”
Meanwhile, the issue has reportedly not yet been brought forward to the president.
