George Floyd and Derek Chauvin "bumped heads" at the Minneapolis nightclub where they both worked in 2019, a former coworker told CBS on Tuesday.
Floyd and Chauvin's overlapping time at El Nuevo Rodeo had previously been reported, but it was unclear whether they ever met on the job.
Floyd and Chauvin's issues had "a lot to do with Derek being extremely aggressive within the club with some of the patrons, which was an issue," the coworker, David Pinney, said.
Floyd died May 25 after Chauvin, then working as a police officer, knelt on his neck for more than eight minutes while Floyd said he couldn't breathe.
Chauvin was subsequently fired from the police force and charged with second-degree murder.

While it was previously reported that Floyd and Chauvin's time working at El Nuevo Rodeo overlapped, it had been unclear whether they actually met on the job.
The former owner Maya Santamaria said in previous interviews that she was unsure whether the two interacted but that Floyd worked as a bouncer inside the club while Chauvin patrolled outside the club while off-duty as a police officer.
But David Pinney, who also worked at the club, told CBS on Tuesday that the two did meet before the fatal encounter on May 25 when Chauvin, then arresting him as a police officer, knelt on Floyd's neck for more than eight minutes.

Floyd's death has set off protests across the US and prompted Chauvin's firing from the Minneapolis Police Department and his arrest on charges of second-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.
Pinney said there was no doubt in his mind that the two knew each other and knew each other "pretty well."
"They bumped heads," Pinney said of the two, adding that their issues had "a lot to do with Derek being extremely aggressive within the club with some of the patrons, which was an issue."
In a previous interview with KSTP, Santamaria said that Chauvin worked for the club for the 17 years it was open and that Floyd worked as a bouncer there in 2019.

Pinney's characterization of Chauvin's temper appears to line up with what Santamaria has said about the former officer in other interviews.
She told BuzzFeed News that Chauvin "was nice, but he would overreact and lash out quickly," and that she noticed his demeanor would change during special events for the Black community.
"His face, attitude, posture would change when we did urban nights," she said, adding that she had reprimanded him before for using pepper spray on patrons.
When asked by CBS on Tuesday whether Chauvin "had a problem with Black people," Santamaria said: "I think he was afraid and intimidated" by them.

No golden casket and nationally televised memorial service for him. No murals splattered across the country for him, cannonizing him into sainthood. Floyd Mayweather didn’t pay for his service. Joe Biden didn’t meet with his family. Celebrities didn’t come to shed crocodile tears for a man they didn’t know. No one is protesting over his death. Instead, his 5 children are without a father, his 10 grandchildren the same but also without a role model that can offer them invaluable wisdom and guidance. His colleagues and community members that knew him will mourn but a nations tears won’t shed for this man. I guess not all Black Lives Matter.

I am sure Floyd was upset the cop was extremely aggressive because the patrons were probably people Floyd was dealing cocaine to. After all, Floyd has spent 90+ months in jail, on 11 arrests, being caught with Cocaine laced with Fentanyl. Each arrest occurred after someone's death and after someone snitched and said Floyd sold it.
Not to mention, Floyd also spent 5 years in prison for home invasion, pistol whipping the pregnant home owner causing her miscarriage. The cop knew all this and knew who Floyd was. Catching him trying to pass fake 20 bills, after the FBI contacted authorities that 11 other stores have received counterfeit money, was a dream for the cop.

A lot more stuff is going to come out eventually. Like the body cam footage that Ellison supposedly suppressing that shows the events leading up Floyd on the ground. Rumor is that he was really resisting. The cops had him in the cop car but he was complaining that he was claustrophobic and couldn't breathe. There's a lot more going to come out. I won't be surprised if all four beat the wrap. Not saying they will or should but won't be surprised if they do.

The media narrative of racism is falling apart. They knew each other and it was personal. This doesn't make Chauvin any less guilty but it does explain his actions and change the motive completely.

This should be eye-opening to everyone.... So essentially are media allowed six days of rioting, 11 people to lose their lives, and several major cities to be burned to the ground, before they finally started to admit this might not be about police or racism.... This could be about a personal problem that two men had carrying from work..... Now we're all aware that the media will cover up information in order to support their narrative....we should have known this when they allowed covid-19 to make room for the George Floyd protests.... Now we know George Floyd was nothing more than a pawn to the media and the Democratic party to advance their narrative of systemic racism and police brutality......just a reminder that 9 unarmed African Americans were killed in total last year by police.... 11 unarmed citizens were killed during the George Floyd riots in 4 days.....

However if that is the case it would mean that this was something personal and could therefore justify it as premediated, which means Chauvin should be charged with First degree murder.

I think most of us here made the logical jump that it was personal when we found out they worked together for about a year even though "they didn't know each other". It is a club, not a fortune 100 company with multiple international offices. Of course they knew each other. They also performed similar job functions. Aka... Off duty officer and bouncer. So yeah they knew each other and yeah it was personal.

Interesting, I hear Ms. Santamaria, the owner of the club on a Spanish language program a few days after the incident and she clearly stated that both worked together and knew each other. I believe that there is more to the story and it will come out. However, this does not take away from the fact that clearly the officers actions cause the death of Mr. Floyd.

Im 100 percent sure that when Chauvin was causing his issues outside the club with patrons that Floyd the "inside" security came "outside" to see what the heck Chauvin was doing to the patrons. Dont give me this inside and outside security never meeting up. Chauvin knew who he was killing

This is starting to show that the incident had really nothing to do with race as the media is continually pushing. However if that is the case it would mean that this was something personal and could therefore justify it as premediated, which means Chauvin should be charged with First degree murder.

I think most of us here made the logical jump that it was personal when we found out they worked together for about a year even though "they didn't know each other". It is a club, not a fortune 100 company with multiple international offices. Of course they knew each other. They also performed similar job functions. Aka... Off duty officer and bouncer. So yeah they knew each other and yeah it was personal.

Interesting, I hear Ms. Santamaria, the owner of the club on a Spanish language program a few days after the incident and she clearly stated that both worked together and knew each other. I believe that there is more to the story and it will come out. However, this does not take away from the fact that clearly the officers actions cause the death of Mr. Floyd.

It was work related, therefore not a hate crime and not motivated by racism. It does not make it any less horrible, but does not justify two weeks of senseless looting and rioting.

Thank you, I have been telling people all along an aggressive pushy cop probably got corrected by the much bigger Floyd and so when Chauvin saw who he had while on duty it was a crime of opportunity. Not racism, revenge.

Im 100 percent sure that when Chauvin was causing his issues outside the club with patrons that Floyd the "inside" security came "outside" to see what the heck Chauvin was doing to the patrons. Dont give me this inside and outside security never meeting up. Chauvin knew who he was killing

The police officer said " who's a tough guy now?" This makes sense now, it was in reference to the night club not the arrest.
