View Full Version : People getting restless around the world

Regardless of what the answer is, people are simply getting tired of the restrictions and being stuck at home. It very well may be the best thing right now, but the sentiment against that is growing.
Many feel their rights are being violated. Others feel some of the restrictions on top of things is going too far. Some want to protest various orders and seeking change.
Others are tired of being broke. Some tired of having trouble finding basic necessities such as toilet paper and paper towels. So the restlessness is being seen in Spain, Italy, Germany and in places around the USA. And then the protests themselves are being protested. Some want to start reopening and others don't. A lot of bad feelings going back and forth over this.

Nationwide Protests Put Massive Pressure On States To Reopen Economies
Note to governors: The end is coming — and it’s coming fast.
The rage against state government orders requiring residents to stay in their homes is building. So far, there have been protests in Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Minnesota, Texas, Indiana, North Carolina, Utah, Arizona, Colorado, Vermont and Washington and more are set to come this week. A protest is set for Monday in western New York.
“Freedom over fear,” said one protester’s sign in Indiana. “Freedom is essential,” said another in Texas. “Shutdown the shutdown,” said a third in Maryland.
Thousands of angry residents surrounded the Michigan state capitol in Lansing last week, staying in their cars to adhere to the governor’s orders but blaring their horns as they shutdown the city. The same things happened over the weekend at the Maryland capitol building in Annapolis, where the group Reopen Maryland says the shutdown has crushed small business.
At the capitol in Austin, Texas, protesters chanted “Let us work!” More than a million people have filed for unemployment in Texas since the coronavirus crisis began.

Have some patience! Grow the hell up!
We should know fairly soon which way this is heading. I’d like to be able to hold these folks responsible if anyone dies because they couldn’t stay home a little longer.

It’s being politicized.
Some governors, mostly Ds have gone too far and people are reacting to that. Libs say they want $$$ and don’t care about others.
There are states with few cases, yet! People traveling will change that.
opening beaches and gyms wasn’t likely the best moves.
Some on the right think trump wants this. What happens if there’s a resurgence?
Its a mess

One of my best friend's daughter has it. She's been very sick for 10 days and still isn't great. She's 33 with two kids in lower school. Dry cough, also bronchitis. Temp no lower than 101.9. Exhausted. She followed all the rules, but her husband is a firefighter, she's the third spouse to be infect; 5 firefighters have it two. Only one though of the 3 spouses.
It's crazy.

Well ... if people have such a work ethic that they prefer to work until they drop ... this virus gives them exactly what they yearn for, doesn't it ?
A pity that they'd then go home and infect their families ....
I think the UK is taking a 'wait and see' approach. Countries are just now beginning to relax their lockdown rules ... New Zealand, for example. Examples such as theirs will, hopefully, show the rest of us whether Covid resurgences happen .... & how easily, how quickly, how deadly a resurgence would be.
You see, that people infected who recover have automatic immunity .. we assume it, but we don't KNOW that it's true. Or. whether some can develop useful levels of immunity where others cannot.
It's just too new a disease. Our experience of it is just WEEKS old !
On a lighter note ... here's an example of obedience to lockdown rules, British-style ....

I don't think that it's as big a mess as you seem to believe. The whole point behind the shelter in place orders was to bend the curve to keep from overwhelming the health care system. Mission accomplished. We now have a much better handle on at risk groups and available treatments since the time the sequester orders came into being.
Will there be an increased incidence when the society opens back up? I think it has all but been guaranteed. By segregating people, the number of infections has been reduced but not the highly contageous nature of this virus. And since a major chunk of the population has been hidden away from the carriers, one can only assume a standard distribution of people infected, non symptomatic, self cared for, hospitalized, ICU interned, deaths. But our health care system has shown the ability to treat and heal 95% of all who enter their doors and have a panoply of treatments available to them,
How this has not been down graded from pandemic to epidemic or some lower grade national health emergency level, I don't understand. The Democrats long for a scenario where they can scare the public into demanding shut down of society to keep Biden hidden in the basement while destroying the economy right before the election. Currently they do not have enough support from their American hating, socialist loving base to pull this off. They are hoping against hope to scare enough people into helping them destroy the economy out of fear for their own health and welfare and concern for their neighbor. I. for one, choose not to participate in this plan.

Once again you make assumptions based on your constructions of my thoughts. I was speaking specifically to Abbey for a reason, which isn't of concern to you.
Yet, you assume I have a problem with 'opening up' the country. Wrong.
I disagree with the way the president first played 'I have absolute power to open the country up, because that's the way it is.'
Too, 'we will work with governors within these phased in parameters.' Ok then, has he said boo to the states that have announced opening in days, which haven't come close to meeting the requirements before entering phase 1? No. While he cannot tell the governors what to do, he is the master of applying pressure through words whether verbal or tweets. Not happening. So, the left can attack him, which will cause the core to respond in reaction-politicalization.
It's going to get uglier and uglier.
You're right about the inevitability of some reemergence, it is inevitable. Who's going to get blamed, unfairly. Yet, pretty hard to feel sorry when he was reticent in preparing people for the lockdown, now is just going to let the 'easing' happen. Georgia is opening gyms, salons, and restaurants. Not bars, but restaurants? Cut hair with 'social distancing?'
He can't make the governors, but he can lead. He just wants everything open and can't order it. At minimum, that is how it appears.

Governors don't possess the power to supersede the constitution. It's as simple as that. That's what's got some people so pissed off.
Not to mention that the steps some radical democrap governors have taken are above and beyond overstepping their power, not to mention simply moronic.
Then the cherry on the cake is, people are running out of money. They can't pay their rent, they can't pay their power bill, and they're probably wondering how they're going to buy food.
So what's worse, get thrown evicted and starve to death on the streets, or maybe get sick and maybe die from covid?
You can't expect everyone to just sit and go broke and hungry. People are going to act out when they get desperate, and like here in WI, our ferret faced little prick leftist Gov locked us down for another 5 WEEKS, until May 26th, but they're protesting here too, and I really doubt Wisconsinites are going to let him get away with it. He was on the news tonight talking about his new plan to get Wisconsin back to work, so he might be walking back his lockdown too.

Heard on the local news this morning here that a bar owner is going to open his bar/restaurant May 1st despite ferret face's lockdown. He says he's already lost hundreds of thousands of dollars, and if he doesn't open back up he won't have a business left to open. He said he will be making some changes trying to follow some health guidelines, as in there won't be any self serve salad or soup bar, etc, everything will be served from his kitchen that will be cleaned and disinfected daily, and his staff will all be tested negative and wear masks and gloves. Hell I'd go eat there.
That's where too many people are at.

Those who feel their rights are being violated by this quarantine, they understand the real meaning of rights.
Those who feel government has the right to tell them to stay at home when they're perfectly healthy, they are sheep.

I feel fortunate to not have been affected by the lockdowns as bad other people have. I've been going to work and living my life the same as I always have, so all I really notice is some weird behavior at the grocery store and reduced traffic when I go to work. Some of the stocks in my dividend stock portfolio are worth less now, but I kinda like buying them for less...
