View Full Version : Navy ship hospitals almost empty

Bad predictions, fear, and tons and tons avoiding hospital emergency rooms, and also cancellations and such by doctors/surgeons. So outside of Covid, the hospital emergency rooms aren't getting much business right now, and appears it carries over to the ships, since that's all they will be handling, is non virus cases. But if this picks up as they say, I think eventually they find their use.

The CDC Doctors Screwed Up Bigly! USNS Comfort in NY Harbor Sits Idle with 3 Patients -- USNS Mercy in LA has Only 15 Patients
The Navy hospital ship USNS Comfort docked in in New York City on Monday, March 30, 2020. The ship was expected to bolster a besieged New York City health care system by treating non-coronavirus patients while hospitals treat people with COVID-19.
But after three days in the harbor only three patients have been transferred to the hospital ship.
The ship has 1,000 beds.
Another Navy hospital ship, the U.S. Naval Ship Mercy, docked in Los Angeles, has had a total of 15 patients, officials said.

Cuomo addressed that this morning. Trama is down, car accidents are down, elective surgeries cancelled, etc. That is the reason they are turning Comfort into corona care, as is Javits now. Trump pushed through getting approval for the USN Comfort, which I referred to earlier.

Samaritan's Purse has the tents set up there. (Told you I read way too much! Imagine if I lived near NY!) :laugh2:

Eventually the ER's will be needed more and more for things outside of this virus, and surgeries can only wait so long in some cases. I do think eventually these ships get their share of patients for sure.
And for anyone not knowing the Jacob Javits center or ever been there, the place is HUGE, so I would imagine they could make an entire hospital worth of beds there.
I don't want to blame anyone, which is why I have been clipping some articles early to avoid that crap. Believe it or not, even the WHO has to run with what they know at the time, and what they think is in the best interest of citizens. Same with the CDC all the way down to the hospitals and even local clinics. So while I was angry with WHO for a spell, I think I understand the why's, I hope. And not having ventilators in some places, like NY and how it was handled. Who cares about the past (even tho I know now it was NY state that dropped the ball), it doesn't matter right now and quite frankly, who gives a F down the road either. Thousands and thousands are out there doing their best and running with the information they have been given or know of.
I just kinda wish they could have some massive conference call nightly where all the medical community listened in on, and the same in reverse, and everyone could be one one page. The most frustrating thing about this - to me - has been the lack of knowledge in some instances, and then who the hell knows in others, where you have 999 people giving out different information! There needs to be a better messaging system to America. The fear from this thing has been incredible and the response from Americans a little crazy - and tons based on information all over the map.

The Army Corps of Engineers is doing the same at McCormick Place, the one thing that's bigger than anything NY has for conventions. ;) I don't think they could get the Comfort through to Navy Pier though.

I think a lot of folks are looking to us to see what it may be down the road for others. And I sure hope folks are paying attention and also learning what NOT to repeat from NY idiots.
I think the "social distancing" announcements have been MORE than out there. Someone would need to be living under years of rocks not to have known. Same with orders to stay home and all that jazz. And FAR FAR too many simply aren't listening. So New York, a fair share of our problem is and will be a direct result of that. And what happens if we peak, then decrease, it starts to go elsewhere, and then returns? That's why a vaccine or that hydro medication is so dang important.

I blame WHO for the masks. Indeed, pretty sure they've done nothing but give China cover for this whole thing.

It's pretty dang hard to plan for something of this magnitude.
I do think the administration, at least the President, did misstep for those first crucial weeks, especially AFTER the China closure. I've said before, I think it's in his nature to 'risk big,' as a business person. It took awhile for that to stop, but since then he's done a good job.

Just checked the stats. Deaths up well over 700 already today. :(
My numbers aren't even up to date yet - but look at the day I first started posting them, March 23rd. What, 10 days ago or so? There were around 353k around the world, now it's like what, 1.1+ million? New York City had 10,700 cases and we had 1873 here in Westchester. Now? NYC has well over 57,000 cases and by me last update was like 12,400 cases. And that's missing a TON of people not tested. So it's bad, and got much much worse in 10 days. About 10,000 more dead in Italy in that time.
I'm waiting on the latest update, even though they are behind, and post them shortly!
