Damn, and here I was thinking they were letting the elderly left to die. Now the elderly starts at 60 apparently!

Israeli doctor in Italy: We no longer help those over 60

Israeli medical doctor Gai Peleg told Israeli television that in northern Italy the orders are not to allow those over 60 access to respiratory machines.

Italy suffered more coronavirus-related victims than China with 4,825 confirmed deaths and 5,000 confirmed patients in the last 24 hours, Channel 12 reported on Sunday.
Israeli doctor Gai Peleg, who is currently working to save lives in Parma, Italy, told Channel 12 that things are only getting worse as the number of patients keeps growing.

As his department receives coronavirus patients who are terminally ill the focus is to allow patients to meet loved ones and communicate with them during their last moments despite the quarantine regulations. Other reports claim that, as the numbers of dead increases, some families find themselves unable to secure a proper burial for their loved ones.

Peleg said that, from what he sees and hears in the hospital, the instructions are not to offer access to artificial respiratory machines to patients over 60 as such machines are limited in number.

Israel is currently purchasing thousands of respiratory machines, and they are meant to arrive in the country by mid-May. On Saturday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel is using every means it has to secure medical equipment to help patients during the pandemic.

He added that all health services in the world face shortages due to the rapid and unexpected nature of COVID-19.

I think there's going to be some seriously pissed off people when this is all over... there's going to be hell to pay when the finger pointing starts, and I hope they're all pointing fingers at CHINA. This is ALL, THEIR, FAULT.

https://hotair.com/archives/jazz-shaw/2020/03/22/trump-wants-help-north-korea-coronavirus/I don't get that unless it's this: diffuse them and keep them off guard while dealing with a more important issue. I can see THAT. Now would probably not be a good time to start a war. he does have enough on his plate at the moment.

At the same time, it is my opinion based on observation of other events, Trump will do his best to tap dance out of confronting all the people he should have confronted at the time.

Well ya... that's kinda always my first thought, that Trump is PLAYING them. Like the old saying goes, "you can catch more flies with sugar than salt."

But at the same time, during one of Trump's daily briefings he was just going on and on about "China has been through HELL," and that we all should think about that, and the great job Xi was doing under such immense pressure and that China donated some masks or some other shit... I mean, it just seemed over the top to me. I really didn't like it. This entire world catastrophe falls squarely at the feet of the chinese. It is THEIR, FAULT, and I just find it rather unsettling to listen to Trump singing their praises and kissing their ass. If I was president, I surely wouldn't do that, at all. But I wouldn't trash them either. I'd either give some non answer or not answer at all, just ignore the question entirely.

Not sure, yet, if their stats actually outdo China's at this point. If not, they must be close.

I think that part of their problem has been how 'huggy' the Italians are. It's more customary to exchange hugs there than in most other countries.

The 'British Reserve' maybe accounts for why we're doing significantly better (.. though in our case, it's probably just a matter of time ..).

So, the very age group most likely to need respiratory equipment, will be denied it ??

Is this so that some Italian pedantic politician, with a watchful eye on the future of his career, can 'truthfully' claim that their respiratory machines met their country's perceived 'need' for them ?

It is a good time to keep the Chinese calm, especially since they control the vast majority of our medicines. I also believe that it is a common negotiating strategy of his to speak well of the guy he's squeezing the nuts of so they can't bitch without looking like the asshole.

Trump knows what he's doing. And he's holding China's feet to the fire by broadcasting internationally "Chinese Virus" every day so they can't dodge the blame. It's a placeholder to return to later.

Right now isn't the time to start international fights.

Save lives now, settle scores later.

It would be fun to hear him come out and say that he decided to placate the hyperventilating snowflake crowd by referring to the virus by its' scientific name, COVID-19, which is the acronym for Chinese Originated Viral Infectious Disease-2019!

It's triage. There are not enough beds, not to mention ventilators, so they are forced into deciding who will get them. It seems they've decided either the younger are more likely to recover of it's more vital to the country that they do survive.

In the short term, we need China to continue to produce and sell us drugs, drug components, important machine parts, etc., etc. If Trump needs to kiss butt temporarily until we ramp up domestic production then I’m absolutely fine with it. We have tons more important stuff to worry about than some undeserved compliments.

Good thing the Obamacare Death Panels haven't been established and up and running full tilt! Otherwise this could be Italy II with deaths quadrupling every 3 days.

We're behind Italy because we are light years ahead of Italy. Italy is a dying society. Birth rates are well below replacement level. This resulted in an aging population which severely reduced the youth/young adult market. As the older/retired population demanded more luxury goods to enjoy the benefits of a lifetime of labor, the nation's economic output skewed more and more to fashion, high end footwear/leather goods, high end sports cars, etc. This left the country dependent on wealthy countries with lots of available disposable income. This is why Chinese trade and tourism is so vitally important to Italy and ended up biting them in the ass.

Economic vitality is as important to a nation's health as is the medical system that the nation's collective wealth created. We must be careful not to destroy our nation's economy as an unintended consequence of beating this virus. The following article makes a reasoned argument in favor of this:

Horowitz: The key bad assumption in the bipartisan panic pander billHow can Congress treat the fallout of a problem it has failed to define and whose solutions are helping to drive the problem? What is the point of bankrupting our future for a stimulus when California is shutting down (https://www.politico.com/states/california/story/2020/03/19/newsom-orders-all-40m-californians-to-stay-home-in-nations-strictest-state-lockdown-1268248) the entire state and the Trump administration is considering (https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/washington-secrets/trump-eyes-grounding-jets-halting-stock-trading-ording-shelter-in-place) doing so for the entire nation? We are entitled to a robust debate and some answers.
Politicians and the media are telling the public to be prudent and not to panic, but everything they are saying and implementing is sowing panic, and they are now contemplating actions that reflect more of a bubonic plague dynamic. Their entire legislative approach is about feeding on panic and using the crisis to immediately implement socialism before we even know the scope of the problem and can more effectively target solutions.
Bailing out industries and indiscriminately sending out $1,200 checks to every person in this country (even those fully employed) is way too premature and doesn’t address the problem at hand. There is no economy to stimulate until we solve the logistical problem of getting people back to work. That requires using better scientific data to more effectively localize the quarantines to the places and to the people who need to be home and get as many people working as possible. We need a strategy of containment more in line with the South Korea model than with the European model.

I saw that on facebook and had to check if that was what it really stood for or not. Evidently that's not the actual acronym...

COVID-19 is an acronym for Corona Virus Disease of 2019.

https://www.goodrx.com/blog/what-does-covid-19-mean-who-named-it/

It appears that even though the chinese originated viral infectious disease fits, it's just something someone thought up online and it's making the rounds.
