I suppose I should be getting used to this, icons of my youth dying, but it continues to... not shock me... surprise...

Here's to hoping he broke even...

Yeah ole Kenny... he was never a big favorite of mine, but his music did inspire 5 movies in "The Gambler" series, and I enjoyed those.

God rest his soul. I think he was a good man, and he certainly had a good life.

I grew up traveling the east coast with family, and playing his tracks in my Dad's cassette player over and over. I must have played Coward of the County about 10 million times. Same as Lucille. I knw the Gambler was his best and well known, but this man had tons and tons of hit!

And I believe he broke even, and got to die in his sleep.

Gonna be missed.

Now "Lucille" was special to me, and hell I was only 11-12 years old. My parents were going through their divorce, or it was recently done too, and somehow this song just worked for me at the time. But I never ever once looked towards Mom or Dad more favorable.

I'm not so sure what I loved about this song. I think I was just starting to dig some girls in my neighborhood or whatever. Dad taught us good morals and what not. So this was a strong song back then.

Hell, he went way back. This was one of his hits when I had my first Magnavox transistor radio:
