CEO is meeting with WH for a bailout-they will NOT survive this without. Folks, this is getting quite pricey, no?

I don't agree with targeted bailouts. If Delta gets bailout then all businesses should get bailout.

With the easing, they've given billions to the banks. We'll see where this goes. I see airlines getting it, cruise lines not as likely?

Is there a cruise line lobby?

I bet there is!

I'm with you Sassy. Either bail outs for everyone, or for no one.

Let Delta file for bankruptcy, reorganize and start over, on their own.

SassyLady, he just said that we would help Cruise industry, as well as airlines.

A lot of businesses are out there taking a beating right now.

I see a lot of talk out there about small loans for businesses so that they can meet their payrolls and live throughout this. That's fine and all - but won't these people now be taking on a burdensome loan? Short term fix with long term consequences. What other help is there? Am I reading these things wrong?

I think this will eventually be seen as an over reaction.
Especially so if the coming changes within this nation are what I think they are going to be and most will be changes that the globalists are after.
This is not me saying the threat is not real, but I believe its is being as of now -- way, way overblown.
Should have restricted air travel sooner but now it is likely doing so a couple weeks late , imho-Tyr

The UK's actually tried it. It didn't end well.

We had an airline carrier - the largest of its particular kind in Europe - that specialised in short-haul, 'local' flights ... called FlyBe. Useful because, for example, if a person wanted to travel from SW England to a place like Edinburgh or Aberdeen, to do that journey by train would eat up an entire day. So ... FlyBe was a great timesaver for those wanting cheap, convenient travel and yet have some of the day left over.

In January, FlyBe was nonetheless failing. It said it needed a Government bailout. Seen as a controversial decision at the time, it was given one (because the nature of its business made it useful, & besides, there were a couple of our airports that relied heavily on it for their own business). So, what's happened since ? This Coronvirus, which decimated passenger demand.

The carrier is finished .. no longer viable. Government bailout wasted, useful for only keeping planes in the air for all of two months.

Our most prosperous and successful airline company, British Airways, is reported as being worried about its own future, thanks to Covid-19.

I'd like to agree with you, Tyr, but on this one I don't.

In a couple of days (if it hasn't already happened ?) the infection rate here in the UK will pass the 1,000 mark. Number of deaths we'd had from it, in total up to now, doubled in a single night, over the past 12 hours, to 20. A newborn baby has been confirmed as infected with Covid-19.

People of our age group are the most susceptible to it .. the 1-2% mortality rate overall will be significantly higher to us.

People can be walking around, outwardly healthy, suffering no symptoms at all, yet still be infected with it, AND still contagious to others.

Literally nobody is immune to it, because it's new, and peoples' bodies have had no way of evolving any level of natural immunity to it.

We in the UK have a fear about it ... that, like flu, it may never go away entirely. It may be a 'winter disease', just as flu is said to have a season.

And there's another one, not being discussed very freely ...what if it mutates, getting even worse ?

It's already mutated from what has been written into two strains, at least. That's what viruses do, suck off their hosts and mutate. The 'good thing' about mutations is they NORMALLY weaken the virus and those with immunity to one, have some immunity to the mutations.

Interesting. A report I heard (I do a lot of listening to news reports on the radio) said that 'news' of Covid-19 having mutated into two strains was false. Do you have a source which confirms that two strains exist ?

Is that necessarily true, that mutations normally weaken a virus ? Can't they mutate to become more of a pathogen than before ?

Admittedly I don't know. But I can't see what would prevent the opposite to weakening, also being true.

In the 'bacteria' world, don't we have a problem, because our existing antibiotics are slowly becoming useless ... thanks to resistances coming about ?

Today is the 14th and the following is from the 5 or 6th, so it's 'old.' https://www.contagionlive.com/news/investigators-identify-2-circulating-sarscov2-strains

I'm not finding anything that contradicts, but as I've repeatedly said about the hypotheses, it's early days and not much information.

On mutations and general tendency to 'weaken': (truth is, I remember this from college bio classes).

https://www.sciencedirect.com/topics/neuroscience/virus-mutation

some info on some immunity to subsequent mutated virus. (Think of the flu vaccine, usually a combo of various strains of flu viruses from prior years. Some may still get the flu, but assumed weaker case than without the earlier strains.)
