RESET: Russian Parliament Declares National Do-Over, Allows Putin to Rule Until 2036
BY STEPHEN GREEN MARCH 17, 2020

It looks like the Kremlin finally found a working Reset button.

On Monday, the Russian Federation Constitutional Court approved a package of amendments passed by the nation's parliament (or Duma) last week, officially resetting President Vladimir Putin's previous two terms and effectively neutralizing the country's two-term limit. NYT's Moscow bureau chief, Andrew Higgins, described the decision as "a dense 52-page ruling clogged with legalese" that removes the last, "albeit very flimsy potential obstacles to Mr. Putin effectively becoming president for life."

It's kind of like a mulligan in golf, except that instead of a simple do-over for a bad shot, it's a fig leaf for nearly doubling Putin's two-decade-long authoritarian power-grab.

AFP reminds readers that "Putin first proposed the reforms in January, in a shock to Russia's political establishment that was quickly followed by the resignation of his longtime prime minister Dmitry Medvedev."

How the hell do countries like that exist like that, and how does Putin get away with it? Don't get me wrong, I know he rules with power. But how come not much crazy feedback from the citizens? He can't kill them all! Is ALL the media that much blocked and we wouldn't see a single complaint?

Would be nice if/when Putin fulfills his bucket list and then kicks his bucket too!!

And imagine Russia with a normal democracy, what they could potentially be? Instead, their leaders DO see that, and help themselves.

Between China, Russia I'm becoming virulently anti-communist/socialist. Not that I was ever pro-but now I'm ready to go all Cold War Cuba with them.

I'll just never understand the dictator style countries that seemingly have citizens that are allowing it.

Can you imagine Trump, or any president of ours, attempting to extend the granted rights of theirs? To even attempt to approach congress would be insane. I couldn't even imagine anyone attempting it in our country.

Look at the Hong Kong students, they have done and continue to do everything to resist. Their only weapons? Malatov Cocktails. Many have disappeared. If they can disappear a billionaire, college kids are nothing.

Remember our little Russian trolls we had here on the board? All they did was post pro Putin garbage. Do you think they really believed what they were posting? I think that's a real possibility. So it could be that Russia is full of people that have been brain washed into believing that having Putin just stay indefinitely as president is all fine and dandy. I mean, they don't have freedom of press there, they're force fed whatever crap that Putin approves. I honestly don't see Russia, or China for that matter, being a whole lot better than NORTH KOREA. You say something against their dictators, you disappear. No charges, no court, no trial, just... you're gone!
