So that's the word on the street. They will potentially vote on witnesses today, of which supposedly will be a no. Then trial over. 'cept for Mitt Romney, he of course wants witnesses. Is he going to vote that way because of animosity with Trump? I think so. But appears it may not matter. I think they need 4 republicans to go against.

Mitt Romney Will Vote For Witnesses In Trump Impeachment Trial

Republican Utah Sen. Mitt Romney announced Friday that he will vote to hear from additional witnesses in the senate impeachment trial of President Donald Trump.

Romney had previously indicated that he wanted to hear from witnesses, including former National Security Adviser John Bolton, and his communications director Liz Johnson officially confirmed the senator’s intentions in a tweet Friday.

“He wants to hear from Ambassador Bolton, and he will vote in favor of the motion today to consider witnesses,” Johnson said.

And a good reason as to why, their case is largely built on BS and lies.

Blue State Blues: Democrats’ Case Against Trump Is Built on 5 Misquotes

House Democrats are fond of saying there is no dispute about the facts in the impeachment trial of President Donald Trump. They are right, in this sense: Republicans are dealing in facts, and Democrats in fantasy.

After two marathon question-and-answer sessions in the Senate on Wednesday and Thursday, it became clear that the Democrats’ case against President Trump is essentially based on five misquotes.

They are as follows:

1. Ukraine call misquotes. The investigation of the president began with a “whistleblower” complaint that claimed “the President of the United States is using the power of his office to solicit interference from a foreign country in the 2020 U.S. election.” The complaint was inaccurate, but the “whistleblower,” at least, admitted he had not heard the call first-hand. After Trump released the transcript, Democrats were deflated, but House Intelligence Committee chair Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) had an answer: he just made up a better version, faking a mob movie dialogue as he opened the first public hearings in the impeachment inquiry.

2. Fake Trump quote. After a series of inaccurate leaks from closed-door meetings in Schiff’s “basement,” Democrats finally voted to authorize the inquiry and hold public hearings. Once the Intelligence Committee was done, the proceedings moved to the Judiciary Committee, where Democrats presented a misquote of the president, complete with deceptively-edited video, claiming “I can do whatever I want” under Article II of the Constitution. Trump was referring to his right to fire executive officials, not his power in general. But the misquote became central to Democrats’ argument that Trump risked becoming a “dictator” if not removed.

3. Fake Dershowitz quote. Once the House impeached the president, and the Senate began its trial, the White House had its first chance to defend itself. Liberal Democrat Alan Dershowitz, who voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016 but is passionate about the Constitution, presented the argument that a president could only be impeached for “criminal-like” conduct, but not for legal conduct that happened to be in his own political self-interest. Democrats, from Schiff on down, twisted that into the claim that Dershowitz though a president “cannot be impeached for a “quid pro quo,” and it “doesn’t matter how corrupt that quid pro quo is.”

4. Fake Philbin quote. The president’s most effective lawyer in the impeachment trial has been Deputy White House Counsel Patrick Philbin — who, naturally, became the next target. When he was asked if it would violate campaign finance law for the president to accept foreign information about a rival, Philbin answered, correctly, that it would not. Democrats then claimed the president and his lawyers thought it was “okay” to “seek or welcome foreign interference in our elections,” bolstering their case for Trump’s removal.

5. Fake Sondland/Mulvaney quotes. Finally, as moderate Republican Senators began to make up their minds about whether to vote for new witnesses, Schiff misled Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) about whether there was any evidence that Trump had directed anyone to withhold aid until Ukraine investigated the Bidens. He misquoted Sondland, claiming that Trump had told him, “Zelensky has to announce these investigations.” But Sondland told Schiff’s committee directly: “My testimony is I never heard from President Trump that aid was conditioned on an announcement of [investigations].” Schiff also claimed Mulvaney had told reporters that the president withheld aid to prompt an investigation — but Mulvaney never mentioned the Bidens.

Here's #2 voting for witnesses, not surprisingly. I think they need 2 more now.

RINO Senator Susan Collins Says She Will Vote in Support of Motion to Allow Witnesses and Documents to be Subpoenaed

RINO Senator Susan Collins (ME) said Thursday night that she will vote in support of the motion to allow witnesses and documents to be subpoenaed.

An earlier report by ABC News said McConnell has the votes to block witnesses.

The vote on Friday is expected to be very close.

“In keeping with the model used for the impeachment trial of President Clinton, at this point, Senators are able to make an informed judgment about what is in dispute and what is important to the underlying issues,” Collins wrote.

“I believe hearing from witnesses would give each side the opportunity to more fully and fairly make their case, resolve any ambiguities, and provide additional clarity. Therefore, I will vote in support of the motion to allow witnesses and documents to be subpoenaed,” she added.

Romney, Collins will vote for witness. I don't think Murkowski has said yet. If she says yes, it will be 50/50 and that should give the win to McConnell. If she says 'no,' it will be a better look for the President.

Schumer is trying to give Roberts a tie-breaking vote, not sure how that will play out-the Senate could call a vote and I don't thing Schumer would win that one.

If I was McConnell, I would absolutely SHUN, ANYONE, that voted WITH the democrats. I'd make sure they were GONE, no committee appointments, no money from the RNC for reelection, no anything. These squishy damn RINO's voting WITH democrats simply because they have a HATRED for the president, making the way they vote nothing but PERSONAL, they don't deserve to be in the republican party. Let them go home and run as an INDEPENDENT, or just be truthful and run as a freakin' DEMOCRAT.

The Dems are pathetic in more ways than one.

Nadler embarrasses Schiff by both rushing to get in the last word, and Nadler beats him to the mic - but lameness ensued. As republicans and attorneys all laughed.

Then you have Hakeem Jeffries, of course a Democrat, saying this all would have been just fine if it were Hillary and her antics - because she PAID for her information. Huh??

--

“Jerry, Jerry, JERRY!” Schiff Fumes as Nadler Races Past Him to Deliver Impeachment Q&A Finale

“Jerry, Jerry, JERRY!”, a frustrated Lead House Manager Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) could be heard calling out to his fellow Manager Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) as Schiff stood up only to see Nadler race by him to the microphone to answer the final question in the two day question and answer session part of the Senate impeachment trial of President Trump. Bemused looks on the faces of President Trump’s legal team and Senate staffers were posted online along with multiple videos of the Abbott and Costello scene (or maybe Seinfeld, one can imagine an anguished Jerry crying out, Newman!”, or as others have called it, a Leeroy Jenkins moment.)

The closing question, number 180, was an open ended softball from Democrat senators to the Managers, “Could you please respond to the question just given by the president’s counsel, and provide any other comments the Senate would benefit from hearing, before we adjourn for the evening?” The asking of the question itself devolved into a two-minute clown show as Democrat presidential candidate Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) had to go up to a befuddled presiding officer Chief Justice John Roberts and correct by hand a botched question that she had sent up to be asked.

Impeachment Manager Hakeem Jeffries Says Clinton Use of Steele Dossier Not Foreign Election Interference Because Dossier “Was Purchased”

This is peak 2020 Democrat hypocrisy.

Impeachment manager Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) on Thursday was asked whether the Clinton campaign’s use of the Steele Dossier in 2016 would be considered impeachable under the Dems’ standard.

Hakeem Jeffries said no because the Steele dossier was opposition research that “was purchased.”

What a disaster for the Democrats!

So if Hillary Clinton won the 2016 election, the legitimacy of her victory would not be in question by the Democrats even though she paid a former British spy to compile a dossier using Russian intel sources.

In other words, foreign interference in US elections is fine as long as you are a Democrat and you pay for it.

It looks like the reports were right.

With Lamar Alexander’s announcement on Thursday night it is likely that the Trump impeachment charade will end in the next 24 hours.

And the official British exit from the EU will also take place today.

That means Brexit and Acquitmas will likely take place within hours of each other.

What I have heard is that a 50-50 vote fails because it did not get a simple majority. The Constitution clearly states that the Senate has the sole responsibility to try impeachments. Since the Vice President and the Chief Justice are not of the Senate, they have no say.

I was a baseball umpire at one time in my life and one of the most common misconceptions was the old saw that "a tie goes to the runner". The rule clearly states that the runner must beat the ball to the base to be safe. If the runner arrives at the same time as the ball, he/she did not beat the ball to the base and the runner is out. The situation is the same here in a vote for additional witnesses. To succeed, the motion must receive a simple majority. On a 50-50 vote no majority is achieved and the motion is defeated.

No. Not Pence either. In a tie, it goes with the Speaker, (majority).

If Schumer puts forth a change to Roberts being named tie-breaker, the Senate could vote on that one decision-THAT I'm quite certain would fail big time-there are Democrats who can think ahead a few years.

Yes, I see that now. Now if they had a vote on that procedural vote and it was a tie, THEN the President of the Senate would cast the tie breaker. But for votes inside the impeachment trial itself, tie goes to the Majority.

As far as Democrats looking ahead a few years and realizing "wait a minute......" I think those days are well behind us Kath.

Senate slams door on witnesses in Trump impeachment trial

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Senate on Friday rejected calling witness to the impeachment trial of President Trump, falling short by a slim margin and setting up a final vote to end the proceedings.

Two Republicans — Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, and Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine — voted with all 47 Senate Democrats in favor of considering votes to call witnesses and to subpoena documents from the White House.

Two more votes were needed to reach the simple majority needed to pass the resolution.

The Senate spent a long block of time late Friday before the vote working out an agreement on how the trial will end, but had not yet reached an agreement on when a final vote regarding the president’s guilt or innocence will take place. A 67-vote supermajority is needed to convict, and that was never a likely outcome.

The no-witnesses outcome had been expected since late Thursday when a possible key swing vote, Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., announced just before midnight that he would oppose calling witnesses.

Poor 'ol Chuckie is calling the thing a sham. If speaking of the Dems entire goal, I agree. Speaking of the Dems actions and gamed in the house, I agree. If speaking of the evidence they had, I agree. Maybe he has a slight feeling of what Republicans and Trump felt when they literally took rights away from them. But what he refers to as a sham, was a trial in the senate in which both parties followed the rules set forth by the senate and presided over by a judge. And when they play by the rules, they get hammered and lose convincingly.

"You're out of order! You're out of order! The whole trial is out of order!" is what America has said, enough.

McConnell Blasts Democrats After Senate Rejects New Witnesses…Then Says ‘Trial Will Conclude in the Coming Days’

In a huge win for Trump and his defense team, the senate voted against impeachment witnesses in a 51-49 vote on Friday afternoon.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell blasted the Democrats after the vote.

“A majority of the U.S. Senate has determined that the numerous witnesses and 28,000-plus pages of documents already in evidence are sufficient to judge the House Managers’ accusations and end this impeachment trial.” McConnell said.

“There is no need for the Senate to re-open the investigation which the House Democratic majority chose to conclude and which the Managers themselves continue to describe as “overwhelming” and “beyond any doubt.” McConnell added.

McConnell, however said he will meet with the House managers and President Trump’s counsel to determine the next steps moving forward “to conclude the trial in the coming days.”

Coming days??

Fox News reporter Chad Pergram said one reason for the hold up is that some senators are arguing the need for them to debate the articles of impeachment on the Senate floor.

Schumer is behind this. He argued Friday morning that he wants every senator to explain their impeachment vote.

‘DEATH OF OUR DEMOCRACY’: Hollywood Tears Flow Over Murkowski Vote

Democracy’s dead. Yep, it finally happened -- well, according to Hollywood leftists who are shedding Olympic-size pools worth of tears, over their impeachment hopes drying up.

Sen. Lisa Murkowski provided the latest heavy blow to Democrats’ impeachment pipe dream on Friday, with her office telling the media that she will be voting “No” to hearing from new witnesses in what’s already been an exhausting and unnecessary process. This followed Sen. Lamar Alexander’s earlier decision to vote “No” and it was all way too much for Trump Derangement Syndrome sufferers in Hollywood.

Disgraced comedian Kathy Griffin could not contain her emotion at the idea that Trump’s probably not getting removed from office. She blasted Sen. Alexander and John Bolton for not condemning the president, tweeting, “So, history will reflect that Lamar Alexander and John f*ing Bolton as the two frail, old, pathetic men who took the United States from the great experiment of democracy to an authoritarian kleptocracy?” Whoa, it all happened so fast, huh?

Griffin asked, “THOSE TWO sh*tbags??? #RIPGOP #ImpeachmentTrialSham #MoscowMitch,” and also cursed the president, adding, “FUCK TRUMP.”

https://i.imgur.com/27yMOur.png

Rabid anti-Trump comedian Patton Oswalt lashed out as well on the social media platform, calling the GOP a sloppy “criminal cabal.” He tweeted, “Do the GOP Senators voting against witnesses and impeachment realize that more evidence will just keep spilling out? Like, probably later TODAY?” Yes, the desperate rush for more dirt on Trump is on in real time. It’s sure to get creative.

Anyways, Oswalt condemned the Senators, claiming, “You’re staking your legacies on the sloppiest criminal cabal since The Apple Dumpling Gang. Good luck.” Yeah, good luck to you too, Patton. It’s dangerous out here now.

Trump-obsessed actor/director Rob Reiner asserted that America had just abandoned the “rule of law,” tweeting, “In a country that was still governed by the rule of law Cipollone would be disbarred and Donald Trump would removed from office and face criminal charges.” Here’s to five more years of Mr. Reiner shouting into the void about Trump’s criminality. Cheers.

ABC’s Modern Family executive producer Danny Zuker got really weird with it, creating a pledge for himself and fellow leftists to commit themselves to the Democrat Party in the wake of the news. He tweeted, “Repeat after me: I (state your name) will work my ass off to for the Democratic nominee even if that person is not my first choice because as any sane person can see the alternative is the death of our democracy.” What will it be after November 2020? A blood oath?

And finally, Trump-hating Star Trek alum George Takei tweeted about the Senate trial being a definite cover-up. He wrote, “The GOP-controlled Senate was as much on trial as Trump. And We the People find them guilty of a cover-up. In November, there will be a reckoning. Pass it on.” Oh you mean, you will vote to change our leadership in November? Hold up, guys. Takei says there’s still democracy. It’s safe to come out.

I would think that if its a tie the law is pretty clear that Pence would cast the tie breaking vote.
Pence may not vote.....the VP has a conflict of interest given that if he votes to remove he becomes the president.......
