U.K. Prime Minister Arrives In Berlin For Summit On Libyan Civil War

UPDATED 12:10 PM PT — Sunday, January 19, 2020U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson is attending a conference in Berlin to discuss how to bring an end to the Libyan Civil War. During Sunday’s summit, the prime minister met with French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, among others, to begin talks of a possible ceasefire for Libya.
Many leaders, including Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, have agreed a ceasefire negotiation involving the United Nations would be the best strategy for lasting peace.
“It’s time now to move on and to bring Libya together under the UN,” said Johnson. “The people of Libya have suffered enough, it’s time for the country to move forward.”

Libya has faced civil war since the Arab Spring, which lead to the overthrow of leader Muammar al-Gaddafi in 2011.
6 million people are currently under the rule of either the unsupported Government of National Accord or the military, which is supported by other powers in the region.

UPDATED 6:50 PM PT — Thursday, January 16, 2020Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan is defending his decision to send troops to Libya. On Thursday, Erdogan dismissed international criticism of his actions and said he wants to ensure the stability and survival of what he called “Libya’s legitimate government.”
He added Turkish ships will continue patrolling Libya’s territorial waters.

Libyan rebels, who control 85 percent of that country, are pushing to liberate Tripoli and reunite the country.
Erdogan brushed off concerns his actions could cause an escalation in the Libyan crisis.

“We signed an agreement with Libya to delineate maritime borders. It is no longer legally possible to conduct exploration and drilling activities, or to run pipelines in the region between the Turkish and Libyan coasts, without the approval of both countries. In 2020, we are licensing these areas and starting the search and drilling.” – Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President of TurkeyLibyan rebels are accusing Erdogan of advancing ‘political Islam’ in their country to assert its influence in North Africa.

Doesn't THIS get more interesting by the minute ...

For me, the 'interesting' (or curious, anyway) feature of this story is that, though it's getting coverage in the UK, it's not ranking high on the list of stories currently out there.

Our press is far more interested in the 'Harry & Meghan' story, and any / all developments, including gossip, prognostications on their future. It's dominating pretty much everything over here.

First, The UK, Germany and France once again with the woe is us. We have to do something about Libya. Not one mention in the article that any of the Libyan factions are invited, attending and/or have any say in the matter. Typical Euro/Western-logic.

You KNOW second is Erdogan.
Where'd he come from? He's got armed forces in Libya and patrolling its waters, but last I looked at the map, there's no Turkey in the spelling of Libya. Turkey's already occupying part of Syria and probably bleeding over into Iraq. I don't the last for sure because I don't know where exactly Turkish forces stopped. Erdogan appears to be quite the imperialist as of late, while pointing everyone's attention at the US/President Trump. So why is it suddenly Libya is his business?
