Hate preacher Abu Abdul Bari had to be loaded onto a flatbed truck after he was nabbed in his Mosul bolthole by Iraqi security forces.

Cops said he was an ISIS member who issued fatwas leading to the execution of a number of scholars and clerics, as well as the bombing of a mosque.

Macer Gifford, a Brit who fought against the death cult in Syria, tweeted: “I’m delighted to say that the Islamic State’s very own Jabba the Hutt has been captured in Mosul.

“Responsible for the execution of men, women and children. This animal raped and murdered.”

Referring to the obvious problems the authorities might face carrying out the country’s death penalty, he added: “Good luck hanging him Iraq.”

Brit activist Maajid Nawaz, chairman of the anti-extremism think tank Quilliam, also shared images of Bari’s arrest.

He wrote: “He was so overweight, maybe from remaining sedentary in his hiding place, that he had to be taken by police in the back of a pick-up truck.”

An Iraqi SWAT team this week captured a hefty high-ranking Islamic State official who was pictured crammed into the bed of a police pickup truck after his arrest in Mosul.

The arrest of ISIS mufti Abu Abdul Bari, also known as Shifa al-Nima, was announced by the Iraqi government’s security media cell in a statement Thursday.

Bari, a preacher known for “provocative speeches against the security forces” is considered one of the top leaders of “ISIS gangs,” the statement said.

Considered by ISIS to be an authority in Quranic law, Bari issued religious rulings, or fatwas, ordering the execution of scholars and clerics who refused to pledge allegiance to the terrorist group when it occupied Mosul, the statement said. He also ordered the July 2014 destruction of a mosque built at the site believed to be the burial place of the biblical prophet Jonah, who once had a notable encounter with a whale.

You mention Maajid Nawaz. I'm very familiar with that individual ... & I think he deserves a more detailed study.

Mr Nawaz is a Muslim, who is - today - as anti-terrorist and anti-'extremist' as you could ever wish to come across from any Muslim.

Maajid was, once, a member of Hizb ut-Tahrir. It's an organisation banned in many countries because of its extremism, but they've been very active in the UK. Immediately following the English riots of 2011, they tried hard to capitalise on it, trying a recruitment drive in the wake of it (no doubt thinking that rioters could be redirected to violent actions in the 'service' of Islam).

But Maajid Nawaz turned against them, and in a big way. He became, I understand, one of the founders of 'Quilliam', an organisation existing to fight Islamic extremism wherever and whenever it can. He speaks proudly of its activities to this day.

He's a broadcaster. He appears on British TV, and can be heard on the internet feed of LBC radio, hosting a talk-in show, during weekends (noon-3pm, GMT, in case anyone's interested ... sometimes he talks on purely domestic matters, sometimes about Islamist ones ..).
