Derek has been texting last few minutes with me. Liam is in ICU, fighting hard. :( Both Derek and Lindsay spending the night. I'm waiting for morning. Scary.

Not yet this morning. I spoke to my other son who talked with Derek yesterday. He said that Derek is downplaying, but Bryan knows he's scared. The community hospital switched from, 'He should be out in 3-5 days,' to 'We're transferring him to Lurie's, they are better able to address this.'

Problem is that Bryan is over 1.5 hours away and Northwestern is in the middle of the Mag Mile, traffic is horrendous and parking worse. There can only be one visitor at a time and only 7 on list besides parents. Sooo, Bryan is heading there tomorrow.

I'm really nervous.

Just got off the phone with Derek. Docs lowered the O2 a bit, a good sign. He's still very sick, but breathing more comfortably. That made me feel more positive.

I will be off to work soon, I couldn't decide whether to call in or go, but with the better update, figure I'll be better off working than worrying. ;)

I was so ready to run home, thank the Lord I didn’t. My claustrophobia would have gone nuts at airports and the$$$!

I’m waiting to hear he’s out of ICU though.

The news I’ve been waiting for! Waiting for a regular pediatric room! Out of ICU!:dance:

I was blessed with very healthy kids. Sure they got the regular chicken pox, colds, strep, etc., but overall very healthy.

Derek at just under 2 got a cold and dehydrated super quickly. He was in the hospital for 2 nights, but nothing like Liam. It seriously sounded like the baby wasn't going to make it. Then...it all turned around. That is something easy to forget, how suddenly they can become seriously ill, in his case less than 12 hours from sniffles, to crying, to low-100F temp; to full blown trouble breathing at all.

Scary 20 hours or so. Then, he started breathing better, they lowered oxygen. 8 hours later, they lowered it a lot. This morning took him off oxygen. He may go home tomorrow! (Sure, some of that is that Christmas-they don't want any patients that don't absolutely have to be there.) He is smiling and giggling. The only after effect seems that of course he lost weight, which he can't afford to lose. Not sure what they are going to do about that though. He'll catch up.

Truly great news Kath. With all the craziness that surrounds the Christmas season, it was heartwarming to hear that during this season of perpetual hope all prayers for Liam were answered. I myself have been lost in UPS hell for the last month. Christmas to me has meant 13 hour days with no day off since Thanksgiving. It's good to be reminded what Christmas is really all about:
