From day one it was backfiring. And from day one some of us stated how this would come back to hurt the democrats in the long run, and that's exactly what is happening now!
This will harm some running for election if they vote for this, and to some if they vote against at this point. I think this harms them all in one way or another. And then any criminal actions that may come out of all of these investigations on both sides. And the Dems will end up mostly on the losing side of things.

An Emerson poll published yesterday showed independents now oppose impeachment 49% to 34%, a reversal from October.
On November 19, 2019, it was reported Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi’s polling of suburban voters showed there was more support for dropping the inquiry than supporting it.
The Hill: “Viewership fell by more than 1 million for Friday’s televised hearings” compared to Wednesday’s.
The Hill reported that opposition to the impeachment inquiry has jumped by 10 points among independents.

In the hearings, Rep. Devin Nunes explained how Democrats have continued to exploit the Intelligence Committee for political purposes for the past 3 years.
Nunes highlighted how Democrats have been trying to impeach the President since he took office.
Schiff, in particular, was criticized for his methods, as multiple analysts noted that Schiff’s polling of impeachment messaging with a focus group was incredibly political.
