Crew members aboard the C-130 initially saw the airman treading water but lost sight of him...

I've flown over this part of the coast many times. Bull sharks are easily seen from the air and are abundant. Folks wouldn't believe how close to shore they are. I will stay on the beach. Just sayin :salute:

This one of the hardest decisions a SAR Mission Coordinator has to make.
It is even tougher if it involves a service member or a child.

They factor in clothing, sea temperature, body weight and sometimes wind to come
out with a survivable time ceiling:

What pisses me off is the comments by ignorant people under these pieces, full of speculation,
and writing as if they have the solution to the incident.
