What an insult to well everything that idiots like Pete actually believe this girl has done more for the environment than , for example, the Trump supporters who recently picked up 50 tons of trash in Los Angelas.

Given the sheer amount of abuse she is taking from grown adults (see some of the comments in this thread alone) it would hardly be surprising to learn that is having an impact on her mental health.

I can only speak for myself. I see a kid that is obviously very bright, yet also for some reason very troubled. It may be the alleged autism diagnosis; could be that the parents and teachers focused on her precocity while paying little attention to the warnings of her obsessive behaviors or selective mutism.

This 'trip' has put her in a position of not being just accepted for her every utterance, but is being challenged by adults. At the same time she's being treated as a rock star by other adults and young people. She's not being treated as a fragile 16 year old by anyone. In fact, she's attacked as if an expert on something, an adult one. She's not that emotionally developed for her age, actually comes across as underdeveloped which likely correlates with her experiences from the challenges with her psycho-social development. It's cruel and her UN meltdown seems logical in her circumstances. The meltdown though is not a sign of her belief system in climate change being correct.

I don't care if someone is 16 or 60 - if you YELL at me and tell me you know more than me, and make demands of me - you will not got my proper attention, you will only get scorn from me and an argument in return about your stupidity. Being a young person doesn't give you the right to be nasty to others and nor does it make someone immune from criticism. And yeps, just like David Hogg, folks want to maker her out to be a hero but nothing at all is allowed to be said in return.

Screw that. I will point out when someone is saying stupid shit. I will point it out and laugh when someone is making demands of others, especially when it's stupid shit, or especially when they are being an asshole about it. I will treat the subject no differently once brought into the public, and more so if in politics and Washington or the UN. Someone doesn't get to try and make changes that will affect others, and then get to do so silently with no argument from the other side.

She may have autism issues. I don't care. She can still do well and exceed past others, this I know. I wouldn't ever use it against her, and nor should it ever be used as a crutch, especially publicly like that.

She may be a "child" to someone, but she's not. She is an advanced 16 year old, making choices of her own and having plenty of adults along to help her. Be a child and get more sympathy from me. If actual 'damaging pollution' is GENUINELY occurring, and is a GENUINE problem, we can perhaps reduce the rate at which we add to it. But we can't stop adding to it entirely, and we certainly can't magically destroy all that's out there already.
