So no dedicated "Introduction" forum, just a single, thread that everyone has to pass around? Talk about sloppy seconds, thirds, etc. Fucking cheapskates.
Anyway, Hi - My name is... umm, Boris. I'm a Sagittarius, I like fishing, hiking, ATV riding, drinking beer (on the beach preferably), blowjobs (getting, not giving... ahem..) and I'm a closet Abba fan.
I'm a fiscal conservative, social moderate although I test liberal on those political chart thingys.
So welcome me!
Welcome aboard

I took the ads down, so a forum had to be concentrated down to a single thread in order to conserve finances.

Oh....please......
don't call it that. lol
Didn't know it was a bad word! The prior member introducing themselves mentioned sitting back before entering the fray, I just ran on it. I can only assume there is a place out there that has a forum called 'the fray', not a nice place?

It's not that I never thought of it over the years, but that's literally never been abused. I have to wonder how many others snickered when they first saw others using the shortened version. I'm not sure others have laughed out loud like you did. Maybe you're the only perv to put it together? :dunno: :poke:
Just kidding! I've been laughing about it for 7 years now!
The women who post here are awesome, all of them! I think the men may have snickered, but we all kept to ourselves out of respect. Pervert. :)

lol - I'm an open book to a large degree, I don't pull any punches when it comes to what's on my mind. That... annoys some people, including my wife sometimes but over the years she's come to appreciate it actually. She knew she was marrying an asshole from day one and we've been at it for over 31 years so far.
Having said that, I, knowing the atmosphere with some try to be a good citizen. I don't guarantee absolute success mind you but I do make a conscious effort not because I'm trying too hard but because I'm a courteous person by nature.
It's one of those "don't let your dog shit on my lawn and I won't run my power equipment until after noon" things.

Greetings and Salutations....
Just stepping in real quick-like to say "Hey" before going back to Lurker Mode.
I will likely start participating at some point but want to get a better feel for the joint -- specifically its members and its rhythms and tones of discussions/debates, especially when things escalate (as they inevitably do when it comes to politics) before jumping into the fray.
Gotta say, though, that I do like what I've seen so far  :happy0100: .
Glad to have you join in. We don't bite.
Well at least most of us don't.:laugh::laugh:

Yup, that's all on me. I figured "fray" was better than "shitstorm," but then again, that's not really accurate, because other than in the Steel Cage, it's remarkably civil -- or have I not yet found the :fight55: ?
Perhaps one of "fracas," "free-for-all," "melee," or "scrum" will meet with DLT's approval? :poke:

BTW, I'm loving the graemlins here, particularly these guys:

This is my first ever message board post, so bare with me.
who am I? what am I? where am I?
I'm just an Army vet who was born in the wrong decade. I said 2 decades too late, but really it's probably more like 4.
I believe in old school traditions and old school morals.
I believe in God , and I believe in discipline and hard work.
I spank my wife and my children when they deserve it, but neither are too be confused with abuse.
I believe in making your own way in life, no government handouts for me thank you , and I wished I didn't have to help provide them for others.
I believe blacks in this country are more akin to animals than people , on average. I'm sorry if you're black I don't mean to offend, I will not just assume you are an animal. I will let YOU tell me whether you are or not.
I believe Islam is a cult, not a religion and should be outlawed for the safety of our nation.
I'm a hard man who speaks his mind and doesn't abide with idiots. So , if you're an idiot, we probably have nothing talk about.
Anyway, hi.

I don't want to chime in too much, and I'll be cleaning this thread up a bit and moving the "non introductions" crap to the steel cage forum. I also don't want it to seem as if I am taking sides in a fight/debate or anything like that. This is a stance I will take for ALL of you.
I don't want to ever see someones military service questioned, at least not without some sort of proof. I like to acknowledge our military and respect them for their service. This doesn't mean I have to like them, or share their opinions, but I can still respect their service. Questioning or accusing their service, IMO, is a way of diminishing their service. I don't care if you were Navy, Marines, Army, Air Force, USCG.... ALL have given time to serve and defend our country.
Very rarely do I speak for the board as a whole. I generally state the community polices itself, and that each person speaks individually. But "the board" - the ownership aka me - and what I would ask of our staff members - and something I will speak up and stand for EVERY single time for EVERY service member - we HONOR and RESPECT military service here. No, they don't get special treatment - but they WILL be protected from having their service called into question.

looking forward to locking horns with the partiots (not a typo) in the room as well as to having reasoned discussions with the more independent minds.

you are reading correctly, but i would hate to think there are only two of us (Seahawks fans) in here.Seattle has been my #2 favorite team since its inception! Always loved the Hawks, from Day One.
Having alot of trouble though these days, finding any Hawks fan who without looking it up, can tell me who their last coach was, or even who Jim Zorn was.
But it's not anywhere near as bad as the New Orleans fans, who know absolutely nothing at all about "their" team prior to 2006!
Welcome to the site.

yeah, when I first saw your little wish under your name, I was pretty sure we would be getting around to "refgate 05". steelers are kinda like the hawks this year. a little inconsistent, good luck on that though. it would be a 12 nation wet dream to have another crack at Pittsburgh in the big show.
I liked your ferrel tweet. I would not have been able to resist.
Welcome!!!

Well, I suppose I should reintroduce myself (although I do own the third post in this thread).
I'm Jeff. I'm 38 and I live in Georgia. Former political junkie - went from die-hard Republican activist to die-hard Libertarian to basically fed up with the American political system, but still generally small-government. Committed Christian - I've been attending Southern Baptist churches since I moved to GA. Separated, going through the final stages of the divorce process. Two boys, 8 and 7, who live with my soon-to-be-ex. I play the bass guitar (5-string bass, specifically; hence the username). I read a lot, mostly about theology/Christian living, but also a lot of history. I love football, especially the Houston Texans (I am responsible for requesting this smiley: :texflag:) , Army, Syracuse, and Auburn.
How I found DP: way back in the early days of the internet, maybe 2001, I stumbled across Jim's first board. The level of dialogue was a step above the normal online banter of the day (mainly Yahoo sites), and I joined up. For some reason, Jim thought I might make a good mod; I did that at the old site, then here on the new site once it was established.
dmp and I used to work together back in the day as well. He can vouch for me. (If he wants to.)
Glad to be back.

It's MCAS Tustin near El Toro circa early 1980s. Those hangars (there are two) are about a 1000 feet long, 200 feet high and 279 feet wide, if I recall correctly. They were built to house blimps in the 30s.
Sorry about the "dip". I've had a few friends make water landings, but was lucky enough to never experience that pleasure myself.
I did spend a night freezing my ass off on a frozen Korean rice paddy once when caught in a blizzard. Fortunately we always carried cold weather sleeping bags, a jerry can of water and a case of C-rats.

John V, a UK citizen, living in Thailand since 2008 and working as an English and Social Science teacher in Inner Mongolia, China, since 2011; now spreading British culture elsewhere after having been so rudely and violently expelled from our Majesty’s former Americas.
Of no particular ideological persuasion, but both a realist and pragmatist and so against western liberalism and cultural Marxism.
I believe everyone should do what they like without traditional values or morals, as long as I don’t have to live in that kind of society. I believe in government dependency, changing the climate, increasing welfare and feeding the world, as long as I don’t have to pay for it and I will believe in equality when Mr. Soros shares his wealth with me, because he’s got more than me and according to Mr. Obama, that’s how it’s supposed to work.
I look forward to contributing.

Woah, hold on a minute, let’s not be hasty, for a share of $24.2bn I can be quite easily be persuaded that trees should have rights and welfare creates employment, but after my share out I insist we give up this sharing and you didn’t succeed on your own nonsense. Deal?

There is a combination of both. Like most forums, a short synopsis can lead someone to read further if they are interested. Your essay would fit just fine here (synopsis).

John V ... welcome ! I'm a fellow Brit, though unlike you, the extent of my globetrotting has been to cross the border at the Severn Estuary and travel from London (my place of origin) to South Wales, where I now live.
I'm looking forward to your contributions. I suspect we may have certain areas of disagreement, but plenty also to agree on ... like you, I'm against liberalism and Marxism (and the Left generally).

Oh my God Drummond, you don’t live in the valleys do you? (For the benefit of Americans, that would be the equivalent of Obama living in Kansas City). It’s a strange world, in which many of us have to leave the UK to find the individuality and freedom we couldn’t find in a supposedly free and equal western society. How times change, Maggie would feel more at home in China than she would in the UK. :)

One of the more obnoxious poster attacks, I think? He’s giving you a personal opinion from another perspective, not demanding you agree. It’s a strange world we live in, is it not. Russia ruled by a conservative and America by a communist – let Reagan work that one out for you.

As someone else remarked, ‘Let's be civil to a new member that does indeed live in St. Petersburg, shall we, Detective?’ The keyword is ‘civil’.
Phrases such as ‘hiding behind pretending to use BAD English’ and ‘the phony’ is an attack on the poster, not his views. That is rudeness, not opinion.

Calling Putin 'conservative' probably depends for any validity on the context you apply.
Within Russia, maybe such a description applies. Outside Russia, though ... he reminds me strongly of a Communist empire-builder. I consider that he's acting with the mindset of one in annexing the Crimea and not only sending troops into Ukraine, but as the link I posted yesterday showed, even acting to crush the release of news that he'd done so.
Our Russian newcomer has a right to state what he chooses, but reactions to it are part and parcel of the ongoing process of free dialogue. Comments earn what they do.
I get the idea that you maintain a degree of cynicism towards the machinations of political opposites ? That's all very well, but there's a real world out there which needs input from the correct applications of political remedies. We have a right to care, even passionately, about our futures.

Has it occurred to you that your own post amounts to a judgment-call, which in turn means that it's subjective in nature ?
There's one aspect of all of this which I suspect escapes you, for the simple reason that we British strongly tend to be lacking in such sentiment ... I refer to a strong sense of patriotism, a staunch belief in our country's values, taken to a depth of Nationalistic fervour.
Americans have it in spades. Burn a Stars and Stripes flag, and Americans feel a deep sense of outrage and insult, identifying with what that flag means to them.
What would Brits do ? Most of us wouldn't care if a Union Jack was set on fire. Indeed, if someone flies one proudly, to make a nationalistic statement, s/he would probably be suspected of being a BNP supporter, and of 'racist jingoism'. In the recent elections, even UKIP suffered a degree of that sort of mudslinging ..
So here's my thought to you, John V .. understand that a different psychology is at work to one you probably feel more at ease in identifying with. Americans are proud and passionate people. What's more .. I say that they have plenty of cause to be.

Thank you Sir Drummond. But, I think John hasn't been here long enough, or able to read what has previously taken place in topics like this before he arrived. So, I understand his JUDGEMENT of me, or others. Which sounds kind of hypocritical...as you nearly pointed out.
It's a combination of different psychology. Much like those who always insist...Unless you have walked in my shoes....you have no right to JUDGE. John probably has an anger problem with America, and Americans. So..it's his problem. Not mine.

Yes, of course I care about the future and yes, I’m not persuaded by ideologies or politicians. I do live in the real world ‘out there’ far away and try to see both sides of the coin, not just what the western media tell me. Of course many of my opinions are subjective and I try to explain them. I’d take issue with your assumption that Americans are a proud people, they certainly once were, but look at the inner cities – it’s now a divided society practically at war with each other.
I do try to understand the American psychology of exceptionalism, what I also try to understand is the psychololgy of different nations in opposition to that.
No ‘aboutime’, you were simply being rude. The anger problem isn’t mine, but it came from you as soon as someone from a different country arrived with different opinions. Be man enough to apologise to the Russian instead of offering excuses?

Thanks Tyr. I appreciate your help. BUT...I AM NOT AN APOLOGIST. We all know, we have a wannabe President who has been on his knee's, kissing rings, and bowing since he took office...all the while, Blaming America for everything.
I have NO REASON to apologize to anyone here.

Yes, Jim has recommended the ignore feature to many a member over the years. I believe ignoring is better than the back and forth bickering and fighting. I also firmly believe that introduction threads are the last place on the board that any of this should take place. We should be hearing what the new members have to say, and replying in those threads. Negativity of any kind in the introductions thread only serves to scare these members off, and potential members in the future should they read certain things in this thread.
But if you want to stand your ground, piss on Obama's wheaties, tell others to kiss ass that don't like America... I never stopped anyone from such posts. The only time I've intervened with the stuff you say is when it's a bickering fest. In this case we just don't want the crap in the intro thread. No one on staff or myself asked you to apologize, just to take it elsewhere.

I agree, this thread should remain clean and welcoming to new members. After all , if its ever called for, the lower boards are there for the fighting , the back and forth jabs.
The idea of Innocent Until Proven Guilty is as American as is , Freedom of Speech.....
We ALL should save our zeal and intense passion for our cause for the threads down below. That includes myself as I have a temper problem that is hard to hide..

Oh, no! It was just a lucky chance that we appeared here almost simultaneously.
And I am 100% agree that it is much better to smile to each other than to see each other through the crosshair. http://www.kolobok.us/smiles/standart/friends.gif
I have work for and with a number of Russians and it's been a very positive experience. Generally I see them as polite enough to make them pleasant to work with/for, but tough enough to protect your interests.

You see, I am over 60 y.o. And the fact that I know English a bit, can prove that I used it in my work. And I know and worked with Americans, British, Aгstralians and other English speaking persons. I tripped a lot over the world and had an opportunity to form my own opinion on very many things too. :)
