Tlaib Calls For Boycott Of Maher’s Show, He Calls BDS “Bulls**T” Purity Test

The fall-out continues from Bill Maher’s HBO show this weekend. Yesterday I wrote about an opinion he expressed during Friday’s Real Time with Bill Maher – a recession would be worth it to get rid of President Trump in 2020. That idea put into a discussion with his panel of guests was deeply disturbing as it showed Maher’s willingness to wish harm to Americans to satisfy his political hopes.
What I didn’t write about was Maher’s plea to Democrats to not use the BDS movement as a purity test for candidates. He called it a “bulls**t purity test”. Supporters of the BDS movement, like Reps. Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar were singled out by Maher as they are the most vocal lawmakers on the subject. Maher also criticized the media for the lack of historical reference in their reporting. He is absolutely correct when he says that supporters of Palestine act as though the Palestinean territory just woke up one day under what they call occupation for no reason at all. The history of Israel and Palestine is never explained. Nor is the fact that BDS supporters do not think that Israel has a right to exist. Maher said the left supports BDS to be woke but “actually slept through history class.”
“It’s predicated on this notion — it’s very shallow thinking — that the Jews are, in Israel, mostly white and the Palestinians are brown. So they must be innocent and correct, and the Jews must be wrong. As if the occupation came right out of the blue, that this completely peaceful people found themselves occupied,” he said.
Even the Never-Trumpers on Maher’s panel agreed with Maher. Most Democrats in the House agree with Maher, too. In July the House passed a resolution opposing the BDS movement. Sixteen Democrats voted against the resolution. Those sixteen are in the minority in their party on this issue. The vote was 398-17. Tlaib and Omar voted against it.
Tlaib, citing her family’s Palestinian roots, said in opposing the bill that she couldn’t “stand by and watch this attack on our freedom of speech and the right to boycott the racist policies of the government in the state of Israel.”
Perhaps neither Tlaib nor Omar knew that Israeli law prohibits those who support international calls to boycott Israel from entering the country, or maybe they did know. It really doesn’t matter. The fact is that both are provocateurs who had an agenda to push. They didn’t plan to go to learn or find common ground, they want to spread Palestinean propaganda, especially on Israeli soil. As Maher correctly asked, is it a surprise that a visit from them wasn’t welcomed once their intentions became known?
Tlaib now calls for a boycott of Maher’s show. She’s all about freedom and equality as long as it isn’t for Israel, you know. She is unable to demonstrate a desire for a sane conversation, however, and leaps to conflating Israel’s policies to that of South Africa’s. This is why she and her ilk must never be taken seriously on making policy in foreign affairs.
