WASHINGTON -- Top military lawyers have told senators that President Bush's new rules for CIA interrogations of suspected terrorists could allow abuses that violate the Geneva Conventions, according to Senate and military officials.

The Judge Advocates General of all branches of the military told the senators that a July 20 executive order establishing rules for the treatment of CIA prisoners appeared to be carefully worded to allow humiliating or degrading interrogation techniques when the interrogators' objective is to protect national security rather than to satisfy sadistic impulses.

The JAGs expressed their concerns at a meeting late last month with Senators John Warner of Virginia, Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, and an aide representing John McCain of Arizona, who could not attend because he was campaigning for president. All three senators are Republicans who have been key proponents of laws banning the abuse of detainees, and have vowed to monitor the Bush administration's treatment of prisoners.

you libs make no sense. you argue for the Supreme Court to take away the Inherent executive power of the President. They give it to you saying that he cant do anything without Congressional authorization. A Democrat Congress gives it. And you are still unhappy!

Humiliating and degrading someone is NOT torture. It's simply a technique to get someone to talk.

Wearing panties on their head....not torture.
suspending them from chains on the ceiling...torture
playing loud music they don't like in their cells...not torture
cutting their ear off...torture
keeping them awake for long periods of time...not torture
beating them with a broom stick every four hours...torture
making them think they are going to be tortured...not torture
connecting a car battery to their genitals...torture

There's a big difference between playing with their head and actually physically hurting them. There is also the punishment and reward method. You don't cooperate you get the not torture mentioned above. You cooperate and you get rewarded.

It's a proven fact that beatings and physical abuse do not get reliable results. That's why it's not used. Messing with someones head does.

To say that the intelligence service is using torture is undermining the war effort. That same intelligence service you were speaking glowingly of in another thread.
