I'm an example, though, of someone who defies your suggestion of 'liberal permanence'.

When I was a teenager, I firmly believed in Socialism. However ... I was cured of it, also in my teens.

What did it for me was a good, hefty dose of sheer realism.

In my country, I saw what Socialism was 'good' for. It was good for causing mayhem. I saw wave after wave of trade Union strikes.

Our UK economy nearly went into meltdown, thanks to businesses folding, jobs lost, lost trade.

I saw Union leaders, supposedly loyal to Socialist utopian principles, only caring about how much money they could win from their various battles (.. all at other peoples' cost, naturally !).

But they were stopped. The damage was halted, following the election of a Conservative Government, one following strong Conservative principles

Socialism destroys. It runs contrary to human aspiration. Only a system grounded in realism, that SERVES human aspiration, will do.

Conservative principles are the answer.

Make Lefties understand the truth. Show them how totally destructive their thinking REALLY is. Those willing to listen, and learn, can be cured of their malady ...

I think our chief problem these days is our enslavement to 'PC' thinking, and in particular, that laws are passed which prop it all up. Politicians, including Conservative ones, will follow PC imperatives, because they think (a) it'll buy them votes, and (b) because if they don't, the media will crucify them.

You saw a small example in a Trump-May joint press conference. Trump, again, wasn't afraid to call CNN 'fake news', and to refuse to take their journalists' question. Prime Minister Theresa May winced at that one ... she even commented to him not to 'provoke' them.

Theresa May will always follow a safer option, the less contentious one she can. All politicians here (except maybe Boris Johnson ... he was born in New York, by the way !) will do that.

I envy you in having someone like Trump. We've no equivalent of him in the UK.
